Has anyone ever written a book or produced art

Personally i got fed up with the ott reporting and worship of Apple, especially the free advertising they would get when a new update came out, that i had got a bit blinkered towards Mr Jobs.So even though not a massive fan of biographies, but if i see it in the library i will give it a try.Might change my mind about him[Y]
You will not like him anymore reading it but i think you have to admire his business acumen. Just look at the apps that get released apple makes millions from it yet doesn''t design, make or even pay for them. They just take a percentage of the app developers selling price. Which they have to be happy with listing on the apples market place. They made a brand so powerful they get given money.

And about lovely bones was a great book read it about 5 years ago now and still one of my favorites.
Just as an aside BW. Both your comments and Joanna''s were amusing.
Don''t forget Nevermind speaks English as a 3rd language. Politics,Germanic and English.
I hope the project goes well and I have marked the date.
I hope no offence taken.
Apart from Joanna being a work of fiction. Gawd I sound like CJT.

Book Clubs are notoriously dodgy... have you seen the calendars.

As nevermind said that he copy''n''pasted that I presumed it was written by someone other than him. As for BW and books, I would be shocked if he ever managed to read a copy of the Beano through to the end.

Funnily enough I''m reading Stephen King''s excellent book entitled: On Writing A Memoir of the Craft, at the moment. It''s part autobiography (very interesting) and part a primer on how to write well enough for publication(even more interesting). Unfortunately the instruction on better writing is bit too much for my small old brain to take in!

I''ve had one book published, and have another coming out soon - about whaling (it''s going to be a hoot).

I would suggest to anyone looking to get into writing, both fiction and non-fiction, to start a blog of some sort. This will give you valuable practice in getting ''pen to paper'' (fingers to keyboard, really) and helps you gain the discipline needed to write on a regular basis. You can also get a good feel as to whether there are people who actually want to read what you have to say. Taking a writing course in the evening is also a good idea, it will help you refine your craft and also keep you writing even when you are fed up with it, as well as the access it will give you to other writers.

As Old Shuck said though, just keep writing things down - even if no one else will ever read them.
Has anyone else got a blog. I publish two - one for my illustrations and one for my canary fan cartoons. Would be cool to have an NCFC blog network!

Thanks for that valuable advise canary fan cartoonist. The BBC''s writers room gives out exactly the same message, i.e. get writing and don''t be scared to bounce it off others, especially if you write some interactive plays or comedy or such like.http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scriptsmart/index.shtmlGood luck with it.

as promised, here is the press release to our event in June. Something for everyone and its all been done by ourselves.

For booking workshops, please ring me 01508538197, or Jane on 01508538415.

Rooks fly low over the Yare Valley

Since time in memorial

rooks have gathered and bred in the Yare valley. This year being a year of

celebrations, we have decided to honour their good neighbourly existence here in

the Yare valley, by showing off our local nature fauna and flora as well as our

resident artists and artisans work.

This June

23/24th and 30th./01st.July, the two villages

of Surlingham and Rockland St. Mary are organising a celebration of their

natural environment, the abundance of species and our cultural as well as

artistic local talents.

Rockland St. Mary and

Surlingham Community Action Group, founded in 2011, have gathered

sup
port from both parish

councils, both schools and almost all of our local businesses and many

individuals who helped to sup
port this celebration.

We are offering children

in both villages as well as the public the chance to take part in our

activities, this starts with a rook making competition and

display.

 Stephanie Ross

Wagenknecht,. Parish councillor and action group member said,’ Everyone is

welcome to our first ever cooperative event in South Norfolk, it has attracted

sponsors from local businesses and groups, with our South Yare Wildlife Group

offering guided walks, the canoe man offering guided trips to the Strumpshaw

RSPB reserve and a plethora or artists and artisans offering their expertise in

workshops during both weekends.’

We offer an

opportunity to meet the

river inspector, learn about bell ringing, willow weaving or join the print

making workshop.  A stone masonry workshop is balanced out with an introduction

to learn creative writing, photography workshop, a Wildlife walk and moth

trapping evening with author and naturalist Mark Cocker, the popular breakfast

with the Birds and much more.

Mark Cocker, author and

naturalist said, “Wildlife and the natural environment are such an

im
portant part of living

in this area, and it is fabulous to see the Rockland St. Mary and Surlingham

community action group highlighting this issue through their 2012 nature and

arts celebration. Through their mixture of organised guided walks and arts-based

creative projects for the community they are allowing us all to appreciate this

wonderful part of the county and the im
portance of nature in our daily lives.

Local animator Phoebe

Halstead will run an animation workshop and the Surlingham Broadnotes choir will

enchant your stay. Overall there are a multiplicity of nature walks to be

enjoyed with arts and crafts topping off both weekends. The Burning Bush barn

arts collective will also put on a new exhibition during the

celebrations.

Visitors can pick up a

programme and booking slip in every local shop, business and group in the

surrounding parishes, so come and join in. To top it off we will have Jazz at

Rockland Staithe, Folk Music in Surlingham, a sailing club display and some

fantastic cuisine that is cooked by our three waterside pubs,  there are BBQ’s

and a Hog Roast as well as a sculpture trail through villages and Broads,

featuring local artists and the work of our two schools.

All workshops and walks have to be booked, with some attracting a £5

booking fee.

release.

Photography and painting. The Canoe man, feature of many

renown in East Anglia.  Her abilities will be translated into work with eager

students of all ages and show what is involved in traditional and artful willow

creation during the June30th/1stJuly weekend.

materials and weaving them into a frame as they go.

Artists and sculptor

Andy Jarretts work, part exhibited in the village during this

festival, especially his garden art, is increasingly becoming popular, people

appreciate his well made designs.

Ingo Wagenknecht is offering simple

stonemason’s lessons to bring over these ancient skills to those interested. He

is exhibiting his work in a Rockland St.  Mary garden. Ingo will be holding a

stone sculpture raffle, to be drawn on 1July 8pm at the Ferry pub. It is in aid

of the Rockland St. Mary and Surlingham community action group who organized

this educational and cultural Celebration.

We shall also have works of arts from

various local artists displayed in a new exhibition at the modern, bijou but

excellent Burning Bush Barn next to Rockland St. Mary church.

rooms. Sheldon Bilton’s workshop will turn photos into pictures, as if drawn by

hand. Hopefully our small
endeavours

locally will increase the scope of our community action group in

future.

Pinched Celebration Rook’s retrieved by brave

couple.

After two rooks were

pinched by two drunken revellers on their way to the shop from their boat in

Bramerton, they had not reckoned with a local couple who spotted them driving

by.

They stopped their car and

got out, asking them ‘what are you doing with our rooks? These signs are showing

the way to our celebration in Rockland St. Mary and Surlingham. The elderly

woman accompanying the two vertically challenged lads said that ‘it was his

birthday and that they wanted the rooks for a party.’

The rooks were only put up

two days before, to show the way to the long planned Celebration weekend of arts

workshops, nature walks and fun, long enough for regular commuters to have

bonded with them it appeared, because the reaction of the couple was something

to behold. The lady said ‘ No, you can’t have em’, give them back! To which the

reply was ‘ no we won’t’

The inebriated carried on zigzagin their way to the shop, but something must have alarmed them in her

voice, as she followed them, and by now they had chucked the rooks into the

hedge. They were retrieved will be re-placed in their original space at

Bramerton junction.

Rockland and Surlingham Community

action group would like to thank the couple for her brave action. Their fearless

engagement with no regards for themselves, the bond we feel towards each others

concerns, all that has to be something we must cherish in today’s

world.

And a happy birthday to

the misguided reveller, lets hope that they don’t steer their boat in the same

manner as they were walking.
