TWO UP FRONT

Recommended Posts

Leicester City are playing two up front against Chelsea. Norwich should have Lafferty and Mbokani up front and be positive

Leicester have got clappers! Who would do such a thing?

Quite interesting looking at the table on 1 st January 2015 when Leicester were rock bottom with 14 points after 20 games. They finished 14th on 41 points. Palace were also in the bottom 3 after 20 games. Shows we should never give up until it''s mathematically impossible to stay up.

[quote user="Buh"]Oh if only we were Leicester

Buh I said this is another post. How many goals have Grabban, Jerome & Mbokani scored between them playing up front in their lone roles?

Now how many have Deeney & Ighalo scored for Watford (not world class by any means and more our level)

And how many have Lukaka & Kone scored for Everton? Two examples of teams playing two up front

Samwam27, Leicester are the only team that you can really argue are playing 442, and even then it''s more 4411.

Watford use a 4231, while Everton deployed a fluid 4231/433 formation at the weekend with Kone on the left.

Yes you need a striker who can drop into midfield at times, like Deeney does for Watford.

One of the problems with playing Wes is that he doesn''t really get close to the lone striker to support him. This means one of the wingers has to come in and play narrow in order to get close and give the striker an option.

I''d actually be interested to see if Mbokani could do this sort of role.

I''m not sure if anyone is suggesting we play 4-4-2, but it would be nice if our front man didn''t look so isolated and actually had some close support. A large number of our issues this season come from the fact that we have no outlet, our up field clearances always go to the isolated front man who is either outnumbered to the ball or wins it and has nowhere to go and we lose it again.

Is the reasoning for two up front for us that if you lack a competent striker you play two less than competent, in the hope that added together they make one?

We have tightened up the defence, with the arrival of Rudd and the inclusion of Bennett, although I am concerned about the two fullbacks. Now AN must consider how to maximise our attacking potential. It could mean using two strikers, but as the strikers have managed three or four goals between them all season, it may need the midfield to score more.

Of course, if we manage to sign a good striker in January, the whole situation will change.

the difference with these teams is they have pace up front so they play one upfront who can be joined by others striker or midfielders quickly when attacking

and when defending the quicker players get back in position and close down faster

pace is so important one player can become 3 attackers in a instant something we lack !!
