  1. My guess about what will happen this week is as follows. It will be realised that we really have to work together which was worked out in June but abandoned by everybody in December.
  2. @Van wink Further to our discussion yesterday we could possibly find out which is the stronger of the Kent and South African variants as they have entered Rwanda at about the same. Not sure of the population of Rwanda without looking it up but they have 347,000 vaccinated ( 97% of their Covax supply ) split 50/50 between Pfizer and Oxford.
  3. Hi VW No not aimed at you at all, I am just horrified. India’s problem is not their own making as nobody will allow them licences to make Pfizer, Moderna ect, but nobody seems to take into account the dangers. This maybe explains it from an ethical point of view and a political point of view and not only the variant dangers, but how China and Russia are now giving away millions of doses mainly for political gain ie you see Johnson’s favour increasing, it is no different for countries towards China and Russia when they ride to their rescue. It is strange that in a lot of the rest of the world the EU are being seen in a much brighter light. The vaccine inequity that threatens us all Of the nearly 400 million vaccines delivered so far, about 90 percent have gone to residents of wealthy and middle-income countries, while the rest of the world may have to wait years, potentially prolonging the pandemic. By partnering with drug companies, Western leaders bought their way to the front of the line, while billions of people wait their turn. But virus variants originating in mostly unvaccinated countries could eventually undo richer countries’ progress, blunting the effect of vaccines. It didn’t have to be like this. Western governments have resisted the call from global health officials to use rarely employed aggressive powers that could have forced companies to publish vaccine recipes, share their knowledge and ramp up manufacturing, in turn leading to broader vaccine access. The U.S. government is expected to receive a patent this month on a molecular engineering technique that originated in a National Institutes of Health lab and is at the heart of at least five major Covid-19 vaccines. It could present an opportunity to pressure drug companies to expand access to vaccines to less affluent countries. Vaccine diplomacy: Russia and China have promised to fill the void, entering into partnerships with producers in places such as Kazakhstan and Indonesia. The global vaccine alliance Covax, which stands to receive $4 billion from the Biden administration, aims to vaccinate 20 percent of people in the world’s poorest countries this year. It faces a $2 billion shortfall.
  4. Ffs you really are a complete idiot.
  5. I read that to, just seems sensible for AZ to borrow some as well. I wish US were authorising now, would be very interesting to see if they went 4 week or 12 week.
  6. Should have added if all parties have any sense, some of their huge stock piles could be diverted to Europe avoiding them joining the ban on exports and fulfilling the EU contracts. Even if it means AZ replacing those to the US over a couple of months.
  7. Yes I forgot that some major data on the age ( over 65’s ).Still doubt US will use it, they have thrown obstacles in at every junction to date though I will be happy to be proved wrong. It was interesting that these trials I understood were over 2nd dose 4 week, 8 week and 12 week, but I have a feeling because of the mistakes made by AZ in the original trials they only started 8 and 12 weeks at the end of December. They do quote however the trial amount of people 32,000 and then go on to say the trial is highly effective with the 2nd dose at 4 weeks. I will keep an eye out if you can as well for comments on the 8 - 12 weeks, but then probably add it to the COS thread for discussion.
  8. This weeks worldwide vaccine doses sees 89 million doses issued. We are now up to 447 million and are now vaccinating at 11 million per day. The doses per day now stand at 11 million. I appreciate you are giving the EU a lot of stick, but I really think some of your attention should be aimed at the other 3 power houses America, China ( and although not a total ban ) India who governments have just stood back and not even mentioned.their export bans, when they are even refusing to export the bags needed, To show this around 70 % of vaccine given is in India, and America or supplied to countries by Russia or China ( mainly free ). In June several governments ( ours included, but Trump would not commit ) stated any country that gave vaccine to under 50’s healthcare workers ect would be immoral. Strange how things change when you realise you are one of the countries with endless supplies.
  9. From the COS thread. At last the trial data for Oxford is in from America, safe and highly effective at 79 % with the doses 4 weeks apart. 100 % with servere COVID ( ie no hospitalisation ). It will still be a month - 2 months before it is authorised, so unless they start making more or allow their stocks to be used it will still sit in fridges.

  11. Lol As I have said many times before I have voted Tory all my life, including in the last election. I like many others then realised that Johnson just disguises fact. I find him a clown ( as do my family and friends ) and if he is still in charge ( or Gove etc ) I just couldn’t vote for him as how I was brought up misleading is no different to lying. I probably don’t help the polls, would I vote Tory yes, would I vote Tory with Johnson and any of his mates in charge, no way. Is there an alternative, at this second in time afraid not.
  12. I sadly have to agree as it stands, but I guess once Johnson is gone I will reconsider that opinion. I think even the 1% to NHS is a stitch up to gain votes. There will be an announcement that it has been reconsidered and blah blah blah and then claim credit for the increase / bonus they receive, when that was what they were going to give anyway.
  13. He’s only on this thread as everybody is ignoring his nonsense on another thread. Maybe if we ignore him here to he will try a football thread.
  14. The injuries are more likely to scupper a few club records rather than promotion, ie clean sheets, number of points to name a couple. A bit of money to be made if you think 2 teams could catch us as some pretty good odds on us not going up being offered on Betfair.
  15. By the way are you jealous of the fact that around the world they are being held up as moral for sticking to their supply to the world, 45 million doses so far. Anyway well done for bringing up something that has nothing to do with Brexit to support your argument for Brexit.
  16. What an absolute load of tosh, what you refer to is America and other vaccine manufacturers that have since September been attacking the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. America currently have 100 million doses of AZ in their fridges a vaccine that they are never likely to approve.
  17. Are you all ignoring him now ?. If so I will join you as his vaccine discussions have nothing to do with Brexit other than being discussed to keep Johnson in a job and make people believe Brexit was a success as The EU do not know what they are doing. If that’s the case then not sure how they managed to stitch us up with a deal that our government didn’t even understand.
  18. So the contract that the EU had with them does not count, is that because you hate Europeans ?. Their disputes are being turned into a government dispute so we don’t talk about other things, their dispute is with companies like Astra Zeneca who took large amounts of upfront money, then did not deliver. But again well done for trying to change the discussion, you told us we invested loads of money in manufacture and the EU didn’t you lied or were misled by Johnson.
  19. But why should it matter, you have claimed the EU did not invest in manufacture and we did so why would we need any vaccine imports and how could they supply it if they don’t have any manufacture plants. The only reason you are talking about it is to take peoples thoughts away from Brexit, so well done for that. The EU are the 4th biggest suppliers of vaccine after India US and China, where are all our manufacturing plants you told us we invested in ?
  20. That’s nothing like they are saying, why try to mislead people.
  21. Snap last August for me, will seem strange having a 60th birthday party so long after the event.
  22. That’s because unlike us they manufacture huge quantities. Anyway well done for finding something to make Brexit look good that is nothing to even do with Brexit. America have stock piled 200 million doses why are you not mentioning that ? The U.K. have stock piled millions as we have to do second doses, I am at a loss to see what you are trying to prove, other than use vaccine ( which has nothing to do with Brexit ) to disguise what’s happening with Brexit, well done keep up the good work.
  23. Strangely the rest of the world think of The EU in a different way to Swindon and Boris, o well. E.U. Exports Millions of Covid Vaccine Doses Despite Supply Crunch at Home The bloc has been sparring with allies over supplies of coronavirus shots and was recently accused of vaccine protectionism. But internal documents show it has exported many doses even amid its own shortages. BRUSSELS — The European Union exported 45 million doses of coronavirus vaccines in recent weeks to dozens of countries, even as it faced shortages at home that contributed to its vaccine rollout trailing far behind drives in the United States, Britain and Israel. The E.U. has come under fierce criticism for “vaccine nationalism” and protectionism, which intensified last week when Italy blocked a small shipment of doses to Australia, stepping up a tug of war over badly needed shots. But export numbers, recorded in detailed, closely held documents seen by The New York Times, show that the European Union, far from being protectionist, has in fact been a vaccine exporting powerhouse.
  24. Indeed, as you know from the COS thread The Serum Institute of India were particularly active in the process and manufactured nearly all the trial doses. Few of the major governments have kept to their promises, at least The US told the world nobody was getting any until the US citizens had been vaccinated. I still find it difficult to work out how Sarah Gilbert and Andrew Pollard etc have been kept away from the headlines let alone received British honours ( knighted, Dame etc ). It’s like they are banned from the press conferences in case they are seen as the people that made this possible.
