  1. In the early 70''s particularly when we won promotion to the 1st division it was quite serious, even in Norwich, and the Barclay Boys had quite a rep. I remember the rivalry v London Clubs was always quite fierce, particularly v Millwall and West Ham, they were almost like local derbies and could be very naughty and actually frighteningly dangerous (e.g. the ICF used to like throwing half bricks and tomatoes with razorblades inside). There was also one infamous clash with Millwall behind the Barclay at half time which was lengthy and brutal for all involved. There were a number of Norwich boys then who could hold their own...
  2. Heard on Talk Sport this morning that David Nugent of PNE fame (?) pulled the old ''Do you know who I am?'' line with a bouncer (fool) to try to jump the queue of a night club. Needless to say the neanderthal did not budge. It reminded me of when Ted Macdougal came into the builders merchants I worked at many years ago and demanded of me a same day delivery of building materials. When I said it was not possible he asked me ''Do you know who I am?'' Of course I knew, I watched him every week. Naturally I said ''No!''  The boss then sent him away with a flea in his ear... Anyone else have experience of such humble players...?
  3. Nice one...strange analogy but I agree none the less. I have become so disillusioned with the repetitive nature of this forum I hardly ever contribute anymore. I seriously doubt I am missed of course, but I think the doom merchants are driving some decent posters away. I agree we need more positivity, common sense and respect.
  4. Why all the slagging of Worthy? He gave City some of our finest times and is a good man who always tried his best...the Leicester fans are condemning him even before gets started...I hope they get their just rewards and he takes them down, bunch of whiners. I wish Worthy the best of luck at a club where he is appreciated.
  5. IMO Worthy is a good manager who made some bad decisions, in other words he is human. He is also a man of integrity, unlike Leicester fans who don''t even give the guy a chance...right now you need all the help you can get, especially with Mandaric in charge...and incidentally, our fans will out sing yours, as always, and we will also beat you on the pitch...
  6. If we were in the top six of the premiership we would get about 40,000. If we were average premiership maybe 30 to 35,000 for the big games.
  7. Good memories Ricko...sorry to hear about your oppo. Yeah, I also remember that charge across the pitch at Watford. The police, who were very heavy handed that day, tried herding us all into the open end and it was heaving with rain. It was getting very full and a few supporters tried their luck at crossing the pitch but the police just beat them back. The Watford boys backed up by some Arsenal boys (out for some fun?) were taunting us. It was too much, so the whole Norwich end just charged across the pitch en masse, scattering Police and shocked Watford and Arsenal boys alike, taking over the Rookery end...and, more importantly, getting dry! Stringers goal in front of the Norwich hordes was the icing on the cake. It finished 1-1 but the point was enough to be Champions!
  8. ...at this time in 1972 City started their final run in hoping to go up to the old 1st Division for the first time in City''s history. I can remember April 8th and ''Big Dunc'' getting the goal to beat Sheff Weds in front of 27000+ (we sometimes got 30k+). I also remember being part of a massive convoy of buses and 15,000+ City away fans to Leyton Orient and Watford where we became Champions. What glorious days they were...we even had ''Kop like'' surges in the Barclay then. I wonder what Ron Saunders and the gang are doing now... Anyone here who remembers those days care to reminisce with your own distinctive memory...?
  9. I saw the post about what our players ''supposedly'' earn. I really think it should be close to the national average salary + expenses. If it was performance related pay or based on timesheets like most of us, they would be on less...overpaid and definitely underworked! Not just NCFC players but all players above conference level (dedicated players...most of whom also hold down a proper job). Am I bitter? No...just being honest if not realistic.  Anyone else agree?
  10. A distinct correlation between earnings and cars they use (earlier post)...interesting stuff and IMO way too much...it should be a far less salary and based more on bonus to improve motivation.
  11. KEVIN KEELAN....signed for a pittance and stayed for years...watching the cat in action was worth the entrance fee alone...commanded his area like no keeper i have seen since and fantastic agility...he should have played for England
  12. Easy... 29th April 1972, Dave Stringer at Watford...in front of 15,000 travelling canary fans, the goal that confirmed us as 2nd Division Champions and into the 1st Division for the first time ever...you would have had to be there to know what I mean, and to know just what that felt like... but then I''m just going through a nostalgia phase...
  13. I seem to remember Kevin Keelan made do with a Ford Cortina Mk2...oh the good old days...
  14. Great idea Blacko...how about getting the edp or pink to push that idea...supporter power...might give greater pleasure than buying a lottery ticket
  15. Buy outs seem all the rage... A poser for the forum...if you won £20 million on the lottery would you try and buy the club?? I must admit I sometimes ponder this...
  16. ''Dream'' was the right word to use...wake up and smell the coffee...
  17. Good post Zipper...much more thoughtful than all that doom and gloom
  18. Many a manager and team has turned the corner in a relatively insignificant cup tie (i.e. Fergie and Man Utd all those years ago when he was heading for the chop). In my view this is a real opportunity. Instead of being fareful of Tamworth we should show respect but be assured and confident and scrap for every ball in true cup tie fashion. For once lets show the TV audience...no doubt vultures that will be waiting for the big upset,...how our fantastic and boisterous fans can inspire the team to a classy victory. It might just be our turning point...and inspire confidence for a late surge on the playoffs...
  19. By the way Wiz...my rant was not at you...it was aimed at the moaner you were referring to...
  20. Some of us simply cannot go for job, logistical or cost reasons...or many other reasons. I do not get to see Norwich now unless they play near Manchester, but I have supported them through thick and thin since the late 50''s (do you go that far back??) attending home and away when i was younger, with the mental and physical scars to prove it . I do not even think of supporting another team, even though I have lots of choice up here. My son supports NCFC and proud of it even though he was born elsewhere and we are 5 minutes from Old Trafford. In conclusion you do not have to go to games to be a true supporter...you have touched a raw nerve my friend...have some respect for those that for many reasons cannot go to games now but have probably attended more games in the past than you have had hot dinners.
  21. Just though I would summarise my feelings...please feel free to elaborate
  22. Fortune favours the brave...we are playing with fear, instigated by the managers negative tactics. So much for his early soundbites...
  23. I think its interesting and ironic that when Grant arrived he continually stressed that he wanted his players to play without fear...yet he seems to have us play with just that in mind...fortune favours the brave.
