  1. Bolton''s Henrik Pedersen has said that if he doesn''t sign with Bolton, he wants a new club in the Prem or he will return to Denmark.I''ve never really rated him but he consistently seems to score goals. And given our Scandinavian contingent, we could be quite nice for him.Any thoughts on him?Somehow, he manages to get on the score sheet. But I have to add that if he does come to us, he will have to change his asinine goal celebration.
  2. I have a lot of time for mulryne. I would like to see him get his chance. I wouldn''t mind seeing him in a midfield that was francis/holt/mullers/bents/jonson with hux upfront on his own I think he might provide an added creative boost for us. but i also must say that if we are to have a creative player (and i count bents in this list), then our players need to make consistent intelligent off the ball runs. we are currently not very good at that at all. you can have all the creativity in the world but if you can''t find someone moving into a good position, it''s all irrelevant.
  3. I just have to say that I think Michael Owen has lost his mind. Firstly, I always thought he was an idiot to go to Real Madrid knowing that Raul (a legend), Ronaldo (another legend), Morientes (top player) and Guti were also there was a recipe for not getting into the first-team. Now that''s he''s not playing that much, he''s worried about his future at Real. What was he expecting? He should never have left Liverpool. We got smacked at Anfield but can you imagine Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Cisse, Owen, Kewell and Garcia all on one team with Baros on the bench? That''s frightening. And they only got 8 million for him. Bad business all round.

  5. total rubbish.if green is getting transferred, then he''d at least wait until the ink was all dry to find a place. and besides, if you were making 10-20k per week, would you live in Islington? i think not.and if there''s a contract signed then that would be news by now. all the people who need to be involved in a signing wouldn''t be able to keep this quiet for that long. lehmann, for one, would know.
  6. Based on Worthy''s comments, it looks like the team might be: Green Helveg Charlton Fleming Drury McVeigh/Jonson Francis Holt/Safri Bentley McKenzie Huckerby Also, not to dissuade any of the attack-minded people out there but I think the chances of Worthy starting ANY match this season with a true 4-3-3 formation is next to none. Premiership sides just don''t do that -- and even if they did, we won''t. Maybe during a game we will switch when playing catch up -- but not from the start.
  7. It''s late in the 2nd half. We''re 3-0 down. Liverpool sound as if they are world-beaters today with Xabi Alonso putting on a show. This isn''t fun. We knew this would happen this season -- but you just hoped it wouldn''t until we at least got our first win.I''m glad Worthy had the changes at half-time but it sounds like we simply have no inventiveness on the field or the ability to keep possession. I''m almost glad I can''t watch it.Thank you to the fans who made the long trip up to Anfield and have suffered through this one.
  8. does he have an email address at the BBC? we should all email the stupid gormless lout.
  9. i''ve just been thinking. we''re all talking about formations with pros and cons for the diamond; 4-4-2; 4-3-2-1; 4-4-1-1; 4-1-4-1 etc etc. and we''re talking about players not getting a chance to play like the swedes or leon and macca. but i think that all our problems are fundamentally with a quality striker signing in the next transfer window. in that situation, whatever formation we play; diamond or 4-4-2 will be much more effective and I think that depending on the situation, NW will be able to switch seamlessly between each one and be left no worse off.
  10. very cohesive post, Mcsncfcmcs. i think taking holt out and having safri and francis be the central midfielders would be a brave move for worthy to take. but certainly one that warrants attention. i just cant get past this nagging notion i have that bents is just going to be a star in the hole and i want to give him a few more games to show those signs. if he doesn''t, i''ll withdraw to backing the flat 4-4-2. i also think the hole position is much better when you have a 2nd strong player to pass to in front of you -- someone that isn''t the doc. i would like to see macca or leon alongside hux in the diamond with bents in behind.
  11. 1. gerrard (through balls to hux and it''s all over) 2. henry 3. rooney (the hole position)
  12. I dont think Leon will start tomorrow. Mainly because of lingering effects of the flu. As I''m sure you all know, it really can wipe you out and leave you with little energy even after full recovery. If Flem is out, it''s likely that Svensson will take Doc''s place up front. I would say, though, that if we''re in the diamond again, I think McVeigh should be up there with Hux if Leon is out.
  13. i guess i''m the lone supporter for the diamond. while i''m not more enthused about it now than i initially was, i still remain supportive. here''s why: i am a fan of bentley. his performance in the hole is only going to get better and he''s a wasted talent on the left. i am also a big fan of safri in the position in front of the back four. he does well there. if we switch to a 4-4-2, i think the odd man out is holt and we''ll lose a workhorse with that decision. i am also a fan of trying out mckenzie or mcveigh instead of the doc in the diamond formation. with hux/bents/leon or mcveigh, that''s an attacking trio that''s capable of causing problems while not giving up too much space in defence. while opposition wingers have had more space, have we really conceded anything as a result? we''ve had three clean sheets in a row using the diamond. and yes, we haven''t scored much but i really feel that has to do with getting used to it. i am playing a little devil''s advocate because i would like to see jonson and mcveigh get some more minutes and that''s best done in a 4-4-2 formation. i''m pleased with any of the following three teams for the liverpool match (can sub helveg in for edworthy in any one of them): green edworthy charlton fleming drury safri holt francis bentley doc/leon/mcveigh hux green edworthy charlton fleming drury mcveigh safri francis bentley doc hux green edworthy charlton fleming drury holt safri francis mcveigh bentley hux but i would not do away with the diamond yet. we can be threatening with it. in both matches against villa and spurs, our defence looked solid and we were threatening on the attack. hux had a couple of great opportunities vs spurs and nearly got leon in there. against villa, bentley created space many times to give him room to shoot including the one at the end that he shoudl have put away. dont give up yet. this could be our formation despite it''s lack of width. i would explore replacing doc with leon or mcveigh for the liverpool match. i''d leave edworthy instead of helveg in there because he''s better equipped to deal with kewell in terms of speed.
  14. does anyone know any way of watching this?
  15. City''s cup run this year will require a visit to St James Park to take on the Magpies. It''s a big ask, but after coming down from 2-0 down to tie 2-2 there earlier this season, there''s definitely hope.
  16. So if Flem cant make the Liverpool trip, what will NW do? Choices: 1. Doherty at the back and straight swap up front with McKenzie 2. Doherty at the back and straight swap up front with Svensson 3. Doherty at the back and straight swap up front with Jonson 4. Doherty at the back and straight swap up front with McVeigh 5. Helveg straight swap for Fleming 6. Shackell straight swap for Fleming 7. Doherty at the back. Leave Hux up alone and add McVeigh and have two players in the hole -- 4-3-2-1 formation. I personally would like to see #1 or #7. Thoughts everyone?
  17. 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing isn''t it. we only won 1-0. we may not have won with our 2nd stringers. and here we are moaning about team selection. i do agree with many of you that i would have liked to have seen other players get a run out but it''s clear with the closeness of the actual result that NW got it right, again. while we apparently dominated the game, we were only still 1-0 up and the reports do suggest that rovers had their chances late on. so, if Worthy did try a different team, and we had lost, then what would everyone be saying?
  18. I don''t think bentley overdid it AT ALL. he did what i want attacking players to do. shoot. you have to keep shooting. plus, i don''t think bents shot in unreasonable situations -- he created space and then he shot. he wasn''t shooting with many players in front of him or in situations where you would think "you''re an idiot for shooting from there". he was in good positions for all his shots but he just didn''t connect that well. if we want to be this hard on bents, then we should be equally hard on huckerby who, for all his dribbling brilliance, rarely looks up enough to see players in better positions. it''s head down and go with him. but hey, we love him anyway. let''s not be inconsistent. i want hux to keep running but try to look up a little more. and i want bents to keep shooting but to focus a little more on execution during training.
  19. So I didn''t get to watch or listen to today''s match. Will someone give us all the details please?
  20. i think leon has the flu.looks like team is:green; helveg, charlton, fleming, drury; safri, holt, francis, mcveigh; huckerby, doherty.so, for those at the game, is this a diamond with mcveigh in the hole? or is this flat midfield and if so, who is out wide?
  21. ahhh kevin drinkell. now that''s a blast from the past. while we''re at it, i''d take a modern-day john deehan. and then again, mick channon was a blast to watch when he played with the canaries.
  22. I too think he''s done fine. He''s no Drury but he''s capable and industrious.
  23. Lots of interesting thoughts. Firstly, we didn''t lose against Newcastle, Tottenham and Aston Villa. And two of those matches were away from home. Secondly, our only losses have been against Man U and Arsenal -- you can''t be annoyed with that. And finally, our most disappointing result is from the opening day of the season against Palace and our performances since then have been better. Before the season, I would have expected the following: Palace - WIN United - LOSS Newcastle - LOSS Arsenal - LOSS Spurs - LOSS (they have signed many good players) Villa - DRAW That''s 4 points. We''re right there. Of course, I would like us to be in a better position but the difference between where we are now and where one win gets us is big. Let''s not freak out too much right now. NW MUST buy in the next transfer window and he MUST get creative to get the best attacking options out of our current lineup but I think in general, NW has been a little more enthusiastic in his interviews than he should be and we, as fans, are starting to get a little too nauseaus based on the Villa game. In summary, we''re in the bottom three. We''ve played as well as can be expected -- we haven''t over or under-achieved.. We''ve had some tough fixtures. Our possibility for survival is no different now than at the beginning of the season. There''s a long way to go.
  24. no way. worthy was dead right to not buy crouch. i don''t rate him much higher than doherty and imagine how bad it would be if we did get him and he didn''t deliver. and the negativity around the jonson signing is dead wrong. yes, we know he is not playing well...not at all. but we also know he''s had little time to get in with the lads. give him time. and helveg. they will come good. it''s fair to say that neither is ready for a first team place right now and that both will probably be ready in the future and show what great signings they are.
  25. On the telly, it looks like this:Green 9Edworthy 7Fleming 7Charlton 7Drury 8Safri 7Holt 7Francis 6Bentley 7Huckerby 7Doherty 6none of the subs had enough time to earn a rating but mcveigh was the best of the bunch.I thought Green did particularly well and Drury showed again why he is probably one of the best left backs in the Premiership. There are not many I''d prefer to have on my team than our skipper.also, it''s possible to lower everyone''s score by 1 point. it just wasn''t that good a performance but relatively speaking, that''s how i think they played.
