  1. Ok so theres two old gits standing down the front ! anyone else ?
  2. With the revelalation that appearently its is still possible to sign out of contract players does anyone know A) is this true B) is there a list anywhere of players without clubs ?
  3. I spent 20 minutes replying to this, then decided I have said it all before so I wont waste anymore of your time saying it again. If we chose not to compete in terms of quality of players and football we will have little reason to worry because these will not be the teams we are competing with come next season. I really wish I could express my feelings regarding your post but im sure they would get moderated. Can I have some of whatever you are on, must be good stuff.
  4. Obviously im the only one who cares, ok i''ll get my coat
  5. This is the sort of post I love ! Lets all do our bit as scouts for NCFC good work BlyBlyBabes ! OTBC
  6. Firstly may I point out that these days I sit in the River end lower rather than the Barclay, and whilst I was almost arrested and ejected from the ground (thanks Mr Chase) for standing in the back row of the newly seated Barclay against Chelsea all those years ago I am now a good boy and only stand when the ball is in the opposition penalty area. But football has never been the same since the old Barclay stand went, I remember the last game against Arsenal when we had a sit in, a silent peaceful protest at the demise of our beloved stand (our way of life) . The Arsenal supporters came and sat with us after the were let out. Obviously being a Norwich supporter (With a good friend who was partially paralyzed at Hillsborough for 6 months, who is thankfully fully fit these days) I understand the issues surrounding Hillsborough I remember being at Villa park and wondering what on earth was going on, and being at an FA cup semi final on the same day makes you think of the possibilities. Sadly I think the Lessons we have learnt from the Hillsborough disaster we completely the wrong ones. Terracing can be safe if organized correctly and limited to specific numbers (I for one would be more than happy to pay more for a terrace season ticket than a seated one) Whilst I understand the days of the Kops are long gone to take say the first ten rows of seats out of a stand dig a hole so people seated behind can still see and only allow a fixed number of season ticket holders to stand would probably be safer than seating. The Taylor report focused on a number of issues very few of them specific to the fact that millions had stood at football games for 100 years with very limited casualties. To make all FA cup semi finals all seater may have been a realistic conclusion but to make all Top flight games all seater without first looking at the issues of safe terracing shows that the major consideration had little to do with safety and more to do with changing the demographic of football to a primarily middle class game and pricing out the backbone of football clubs traditional support in the hope that this along with the ability to use more cctv would eradicate football violence. Ok so in 2004 for the most part violence actually in the vicinity of a football group has been reduced to a few alcohol induced situations that are not enough to worry the powers that be. Even those intent on violence are intelligent enough to understand that with the huge amounts of CCTV in operation anything happening in or near the ground would in all likelihood come back to haunt them. When I was a boy my nextdoor neighbour used to take me and his son to Carrow Rd, from the age of 6 I sat on the bars at the front of the barclay. Football has lost part of its soul with all seater stadia. Safety at all costs but lets look with open eyes, to have a couple of thousand amongst 25 or 30,000 standing and roaring the team on would improve the atmosphere for all. Anyone want to sign up ? Does anyone know if there still is a Campaign for safe terracing ? OTBC Any memories of the old barclay or river end stands ?
  7. Ok I have been redigesting some of the post over the period of the transfer deadline and had a couple of points id like to make. It would appear that we fall into two camps the "glass half full" and "glass half empty" brigades I suppose it is only natural that some people generally have a rosy outlook on life while others fear the worst, I guess you cant really fault either point of view if it is from the heart. We have a good squad, one that with the yellow and green glasses may well be enough to keep us in the premiership. BUT. The view of "little old" Norwich is being perpetuated by these well meaning fans that quite simply seem to continually infer we are skint. Even after the Rooney money Everton have less money than us ! We are a well run club and our debt even before promotion last season was very reasonable in terms of football debt. Now I am also not one for big money signings the 2M of so we have spent this summer seems good business and I certainly wouldn''t have tried to outbid West Brom for Earnshaw. We don''t know the situation with wages at city this season and I would guess that is where most of our windfall has gone. Ok I have kept banging on about a centreforward and was very disappointed hat we didn''t manage to land one, the fact is in football here is one commodity that doesn''t come cheap. We have picked up quality defenders and midfield players of international class for less than the cost of a promising  League 1 Striker. The Board were bold last season we were all in it together and knew that if it didn''t come off we would  have been waving goodbye to our most talented players (although the pessimist in me will say that this is even more likely to be the case with failure this season as most football scouts will have Sky TV) Anyway what I am really trying to say is I think if we continually say we cannot afford to compete with the likes of Crystal Palace and West Brom in the transfer market we cannot at the same time scream at the pundits who write us off as a valiant little club doing its best in the big time. I agree with Worthy , we should only bring in players that are better than we have, I for one had my heart set on a certain Mr P Crouch and with hindsight I think we should bitten the bullet and shelled out the 2 Mil ( or indeed found a big bruising centre forward somewhere in Estonia or the like, I would have been quite happy with Sandor Torghelle) to compliment what we already had. Hopefully we will still be in touch by Christmas and can add this final piece of the jigsaw then I would personally have the deal sorted over the next month or so (at least in theory) as with the previous transfer window we shouldn''t be scrambling around to see what is available on the last day, that is bad business. I am happy that we have enough depth in the rest of the squad to get us through the season. Fair enough don''t look at players for silly money and make sure we get a bargain, but we are here to compete in every way and not just pick up the players that no other premier league club wanted. (blimey almost sounded positive there !) OTBC Hattrick for the Doc on Sunday anyone ??
  8. I was so excited when I realised we could do this on the new board I nearly wet myself. I know should get out more.
  9. I was passing Pinkun Towers last night and spied Mr Waghorn leaving the building, He looked like he''d had a few late nights ! Remember the spies are everywhere !
  10. I Really miss the old Barclay, I think its a shame youngsters today will never experience atmosphere like that for themselves, made loads of friends down there.
  11. I too think it will be a hard game but I really think we will get something but unfortunately it may only be a draw (did my pic work ?) the spellchecker is really cool now people wont realise how stupid i am ! doh ! I''ll get my coat.
  12. I suggest most other relegated sides have seen players deserting like the preverbial rats on a sinking ship contracts or not. oops forgot must be cheerful at all costs !
  13. Thanks boys I was starting to think I had burned my Canary pants in public ! Lets all hope it works out for the best and it could be that Mckenzie is going to hit form soon (see changing formation in other post) just because im worried and dissapointed doesnt mean I want us to fail. OTBC
  14. OK so maybe my dissapointment is getting the better of me and maybe its that I disagree with the formation that we are currently adopting I am not suggesting that this seasons squad is poorer than last or indeed that we dont have a squad filled will quality players. Previously I have stated how pleased I was in general with our squad and that i think that there is no dead wood that all the players we currently have can do a job at this level. Early indications are that our defence can cope reasonably well (although I guess we have conceded 9 goals in 4 matches) Hopefully Safri can come in and build on his assured display last week and offer both ball winning and distibution alongside the revelation of Francis. I have always been happy with Mcveigh and unlike many others I think that Jonson will find his feet soon. I am not convinced by Bentley (I thought in general we played better without him against Arsenal he is a loose cannon in my opinion) and Whilst Docs first games have proved he is an improvement on Svenson certainly on current form, especially in terms of holding the ball up and bringing other players into the game I cannot see him being prolific. Mckenzie had a great record considering his limited starts last season although his touch so far in the limited time he has been played has been poor (this may be because he isnt given long enough to settle being brought on for the last few minutes of the games but again this comes back to formation) Huckerby is fantastic player (his picture is on my desktop) he can do things with a ball that few outside Henry would attempt, but again I say he has been at his most devestating for us in a more withdrawn role (see man in the stands, someone agrees with me) Jarvis and Henderson have real promise but its unlikely to be fulfilled in the short term. Ok so im dissapointed because I think we have the makings of a great squad but may just come up short in the one area that matters most (if you dont score you wont win games) I dont buy the mumbo jumbo about last minute signings, of course we have had all summer to find a centreforward from all points of the globe and like last year we couldn''t do it, I dont understand why we struggle so to attract strikers but the jinx continues. Worthy made no secret of the fact that he agreed with me otherwise he would have made a statement saying the squad was complete or that he was looking for players in other positions, no he wanted a centreforward just like me. Maybe we will change the formation and get the best out of the players we have or maybe one of those mentioned above will hit form similar to that of Mcveigh in the Play off campaign who knows, maybe Hucks will proove to be a 20 goal a year striker in the premiership. All of these questions will be answered in the coming months I just feel that the odds lengthened significantly with this missing piece of the jigsaw and that January is a very long time away in football terms. I have been watching Norwich City for over 30 years and I am a shareholder in the club I want nothing more than success for us all but blind faith makes no more sense than negativity just for the hell of it. I have tried to put forward the reasons I''m dissapointed and I understand that nothing can guarentee survival I feel we have sold ourselves short. Looking at the championship it doesnt appear to be getting any easier to bounce back from and also clubs seem to lose more and more players with relegation, if we go back down it could just as easily be another 9 years as one. In short enjoy the Premiership, give it your best shot (BEST) and if we cant make it we did everything we could and if we come up short next May so be it but let us not be another Watford.
  15. Ok so I thought Id start a new thread as nobody read my last post. I have been a city fan for many years and agree that our current squad has some really class players, but to stay in this league you need to score goals and I really dont know where they will come from. Whilst I am not complete doom and gloom I am very dissapointed and failing to sign a recognised premiership goalscorer at leat till January has in my opinion halved our chances of staying up. Hopefully a number of players will play beyond themselves in the coming months but I cant imagine our forward line being the envy of many other premiership clubs can you ? Svenson , in my opinion the jury was still out at first division level and he has proved nothing so far this season. Huckerby , will say it again for the hundredth time is not a centreforward , his shooting is just not acurate enough (see Newcastle sitter most recent of many) He is a fantastic player and can make any team tick at any level but will not be the one to score the goals to keep us in this league. Doherty , prefers to play at centre half and although I can see him doing a job for us cant see him being prolific. McKenzie, Got pace and possibilities but currently very short on confidence having had good chances in all his appearances and yet to get close to scoring. Jarvis and Henderson , not ready yet, showing some promise but we cannot rely on them to keep us in the premiership. Bentley, Mcveigh and Jonson all have possibilites but currently playing much deeper. I would be keen to see any of these play upfront with Doherty with Huckerby in behind but still think we are clutching at straws. Huckerby scored 14 goals last year at a lower level, the reason we were so succesful was that he created at least as many for others, he will not do that playing upfront. Well I hope that I am proved wrong we have played well in our first few games but in my opinion lack the key ingredient of a natural goalscorer who can crack premiership defences. We still have less points than we would have hoped by now, 3 points from Crystal Palace. The gutsy displays against Man U, Newcastle and Arsenal count for nothing. There is an old saying "Spoiling the ship for a ha''peth of tar" and I think not signing a goalscorer has left us that one bit short. We should have seen it coming after all we failed miserably to sign one last summer, and got lucky that we could get the loan signings in later. Unfortunately this year we do not have the luxury. I do hope you will all throw these words back in my face when we storm up the league but I wont be holding my breath.
  16. OK I''ll get my coat. I will buck the trend and agree with the Wiz, whilst I am not complete doom and gloom I am very dissapointed and failing to sign a recognised premiership goalscorer at leat till January has in my opinion halved our chances of staying up. Hopefully a number of players will play beyond themselves in the coming months but I cant imagine our forward line being the envy of many other premiership clubs can you ? 17. I think we are very week up front as yet only Hucks and Doc have shown any signs knowing where the goal is in the premiership and I still think Hucks isnt an out and out Striker and Doc prefers to play in defence. Mckenzie has been a rabbit caught in the headlights so far this season and missed at least three I would have scored and neither Henderson or Jarvis are ready. Oh and as for Svennson dont even get me started. Not a proven goalscorer amongst them. I think we need to start praying very hard , very hard indeed.
  18. When did Doncaster say this ? Does this suggest feverish work afoot at FCR ? Or was it just a passing coment ? So many questions, so little time.
  19. Time is short and striking options are limited, last chance till xmas. Surely we can loan one from Chelsea or someone till xmas . fingers crossed come on worthy.
  20. Any thoughts, fingers crossed worthy has a player with a dozen goals in him in his sights for tomorrow !
  21. "The City boss met the board yesterday to discuss his financial needs, and admits that another striker is top of his list." Thats suggests that Mr Worthington is very much aware of what he wants to do and the stumbling block on the final piece of the jigsaw is transfer fee. So it could be the big one we''ve been waiting for, not suggesting a huge transfer fee but possibly a record for us. Ok I know 2 + 2 = 5 or does it.
  22. Dont need and cant afford another Small forward. Dean Ashton would be a better bet and much cheaper.
  23. Sorry to split hairs but of course we know that hucks was supposedly offside on several occasions when quite clearly he was not , just too quick for the linesman !
  24. I still don''t think Huckerby is most dangerous up front, last season he spent alot of time on the left gave him more people to run at and two strikers to find in the box. ok maybe leaves us exposed defensively but if we play Safri and Francis in the centre they would be primarily defending.
  25. To the tune of wandrin stat (sadly old enough to remember it being sung) I was born under the Barclay Stand where boots where made for kicking and guns were made to shoot If you come in to the Barclay stand were gonna put in the boot. ok I''ll get my coat.
