And another point, the sale of the hotel land (£1.1m) helped temporarily alleviate some of the financial problems that were beginning to mount.
[:D]
 2.
we will never know......difficult to say we dodged a bullet when looking at him playing for an inferior side in Villa....we can only surmise how he would have fared in a better side such as ours. I''d still maintain that he would have scored a fair few goals in our side ,with the players around him and the chances created for him....
First rational post I''ve read of yours [Y]
 3.
For me it''s the way we set the team up to play as much as personnel. We could go with the settled team but with the full backs restrained. If we want them to be attacking then maybe play 3 at the back with wing backs. But how the feck that would work with a double pivot is beyond me[;)]
The DP mainly pertains to the 4-2-3-1, Nigel [:|]
 4.
If I''m being brutally honest I''ve got to say anything by true grit. The guy has a gift. I still remember his scouting thread a few weeks ago it was colossal had me in tears and the modernising the game thread was pretty good as well
[Y]
 5.
Even though we have two tough away games three days apart, I don''t think we should change anything for Wednesday with Saturday in mind. Any changes should be based only on what will work best against Newcastle. Agree that Brady looked exhausted, really don''t think he can start Wednesday and Saturday. With that in mind, what about:McGovernPinto Martin Klose OlssonDorrans TetteyJacob Howson PritchardJeromeThen Howson can drop deeper to support Dorrans and Tettey where required. Wes, Brady, Josh and Nelson on the bench should offer enough options to change it up if required. Wes is playing superbly at the moment, but ''horses for courses'' – Pritchard can offer the creativity, and Jacob the pace.
Newcastle are likely to field a 4-4-1-1 with pacey wingers in Ritchie & Gouffron, so it''ll be Pinto & Olsson who will be required to stay deeper than usual -- Howson will remain deeper in the double pivot with either Dorrans or Tettey -- we do not need seven players playing defensively - it''s Newcastle not Bayern München [:|]
 6.

I don''t like Tettey and Mulumbu together in that holding two.Primarily because neither of them seem to be able to pass for toffee.I take that back, I think Mulumbu''s % was probably Ok, but his refusal or inability to turn meant he simply kept playing it to players under pressure already.
Has to be said, hoggy, Dorrans & Howson have adapted to unfamiliar defensive-midfielder roles to make up the double pivot very well indeed [Y] They''ve mostly stayed deep and their distribution has been superior to that of both Tettey & Mulumbu.
I think Dorrans has always been quite well disciplined and doesn''t mind getting stuck in so always thought he would be capable of playing the deeper role. Howson has also done well - they''re both playing a little deeper than they naturally would but their work rate has been exceptional and like we say, their distribution is much better than Tettey or Mulumbu. I''ve also noticed when attacking they take it in turns to take the more advanced role, particularly when pressing the opposition into their own half.
[:O] Somebody at last gets it! [Y]
 7.

Tettey/Mulumbu in for Wes, Howson forward only change I would make. quite why you would suggest to make so many changes to the shape and personnel of a team that has won 5 on the spin LDC is laughable...
My fear, willo, is that we are too attacking and open for a team like Newcastle.   We were last season and we paid the penalty.  Tettey was a key player that day and the moment he was removed from the pitch, we lost any possible control of the midfield.  Surely it is not a step too far to put him in and have four across the midfield?      We have played in the past with Howson, Tettey and Dorrans and Johnson as a four across midfield - for instance away at Brighton 2014-15- which we won. If  Dorrans takes the wide left Johnson position (which he also did that season several times from the bench in matches we won - eg away at Blackburn) then Thompson is a good fit for the central position.  So how is  Howson Tettey Thompson Dorrans laughable as a midfield four?  And if we need to play on the break, why is Ja Murphy laughable?  More likely to get a run on the Newcastle defenders than Wes - and his pace could mean he goes left, right or central - could be a real handful.  As for Jerome, I agree that he should probably start, but surely Oliveira isn''t far from a start?  Maybe my suggestion is too radical and too many changes, but as I said, if the team is unchanged from the last few games, it is not inconceivable that during the game, depending what happens, Wes could be subbed for Tettey, Jerome for Oliveira and Brady for Thompson.  So if that is possible and we end up with the team on the pitch that I suggest as a starter team - why on earth is it so far fetched to think it could have been a starting line up?
Cut to 2:12: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28EM8ptNULI&feature=youtu.beNow, after Burton it could be argued that the Dorrans/Howson pairing renders the back four a tad vulnerable, ''though that certainly wasn''t apparent versus Forest and most would agree that said duo weren''t to fault Saturday - that said, Neil might see fit to field Tettey with either of the former in order to secure more confidence defensively. As previous, I''d go with the same starting 11.Other than that the current formation is
 8.
Another great result and the superb run continues. We also had 20 points from 9 games in our last promotion season but then went on a ten game run that harvested only a meagre seven points and ultimately led to Neil Adam''s resignation five games later even though ten points were gained from those games. Our next ten games are: Newcastle. A Wolves. A Rotherham. H Fulham. A Preston. H Brighton. A Leeds. H QPR. A Derby. H Brentford. H How many points do you think we will get from these games? I''m going for 15.
Christ! It''s no wonder you fellas care little to understand the intricacies of the game when you''re busying yourselves purely guessing the points accumulation of the following ten matches [:P]
 9.
Ruddy Martin Bassong Bennett Whittaker Naismith Thompson Jarvis Murphy Murphy Lafferty We need to change things up a bit to see if we can finally click as a side and while we are top of the league, now is the time to give the others a chance to step up IMO.
This is a better team selection than that of the silly hat wearing buffoon in the other thread [Y]
 10.
I was saying on Saturday that we look more balanced in midfield without Tettey, not sure he should come back at the expense of either Dora''s or Howson or Hoolahan.......
He shouldn''t and neither should the Dorrans/Howson partnership in the, dare I say it? Double pivot be interfered with.I fully expect Neil to go with the same formation and team against Newcastle [Y]
 11.
"Don''t change a winning team" is an age old saying, but for Wednesday, maybe a little tweaking could be necessary?   We are not yet playing consistently well and although results are there and the last away performance was excellent - maybe time to bring back Tettey?  Or Naismith for his experience in big matches?   This is Newcastle away and while they are just another championship club, they have players who can cause more problems than most of the rest of the division.  Those that have seen the last few matches, would you put in Tettey for Dorrans - or is he playing well enough to keep Tettey out?  Would you bring in Thompson or Mulumbu?  The memory of last season''s visit is fresh in all our minds, I''m sure, so a good strong defence and robust midfield is going to be important. How about a 4411 -               McGovern    Pinto Martin Klose OlssonHowson Tettey Thompson Dorrans                Ja Murphy                 OliveiraStrong midfield, leaving out Wes, but Jacob is more likely to be able to do something on the break.  So defend strong and look for a breakaway goal.  What do you think should be the changes, if any?
You''re obviously on a wind up [:P]

 14.
what on earth is the matter with you?? why are you trying to make this into something more complex than it is??....in a midfield 3 , you either play 2 sitting midfielders with 1 infront, or 1 sitting midfielder with 2 infront....that really is all there is to it?, why are you trying make out somebody has re-invented the wheel here?
Oh dear Christ I give up! 15.
So what''s the underlying point behind your bump here? Because AN fielded a 4-2-3-1 tonight he probably will on Saturday too? Shock..
Yes and look how that panned out [:|]

 17.
I don''t know about that. If you watch the clip, he spits before taking the free kick. Not a great example to young players IMO, and smacks of prima donna style behaviour which could impact on the squad. It only takes one bad apple to spoil a barrel and, as we have seen with Snodgrass, if players aren''t showing the right body language and effort then it doesn''t matter how good they are.
[:D]

 20.
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Bring him back in January for the promotion run in........
As the season progresses I''m certain we''ll witness Hoolahan as an impact sub rather than a first 11 stalwart with Pritchard, Naismith & Maddison vying for his position - attacking options are the least of our worries - it''s our central defensive options we should be concerned about for the long haul.

 22.
Top of the league and then this post?
Slightly miffed as to why you find said post as anything other than constructive [*-)] I''m ecstatic with our League position and I agree with some that the likes of Bassong & Turner are capable cover in this Division, but it is the one area of the field we''re lightest on and they''re hardly spring chickens, which is why I think any January signings should be a couple of younger centre-backs -- imperative in fact if we''re to build on a side that looks to be heading back to the Premier [Y]
 23. If & when injuries/suspensions/tiredness kick in for the long haul: which two would be your nightmare coupling for the central defensive roles?Bring on the injection of youth in said position with the signing of Jérôme Onguéné come January I say [Y]
