Shrewd business yet again?

Recommended Posts

Given the fact that Kamara''s deal is a loan and, if reports are to be believed, Becchio is a straight swap for Morison? Surely this leaves a large lump of the £10m we were quoted as offering for Hooper/Graham combined? Minus loan/agent/signing on fees. Maybe we''ll keep testing that Celtic water up until 11pm tomorrow night?

Kamara is a loan with a view to permanent as well, which means if he excels for us we can sign him in the summer, saving money right now for another player, perhaps?

People started bashing McNally, but actually, maybe he''s worked magic all over again!

or maybe now that we have looked to tie up 2 new strikers, we might look elsewhere in the team to improve. A centre back to make sure we don''t crumble when Bassong doesn''t play. A winger with both pace and technical ability? Tomorrow should be interesting but the two reported deals today should calm a few nerves at least. Tomorrows signings are a bonus.

It does all look like pretty shrewd business as things stand at the moment - two in for minimal outlay and one out who had lost the supporters - but does need the follow-up of the ''big'' signing to follow tomorrow....I guess we wait and see!

I think there is still a good chance of Curtis Davies coming in (possibly with Barnett or Ward going the other way?). That would leave money for another deal, but if not City will still have stronger attacking options for the rest of the season.

I hope that there is a big signing arriving, but I fear that spending £10m is out of the question. I very much doubt that we ever made two £5m bids simultaneously, and that if both had been accepted we would have found a way to pull back on one. After the second bid Lennon, when asked if it was £6m, said, "Nowhere near!" I suspect that we began with bids nearer £3m than £5m.

Sunderland look likely to asign Graham for £5.5 m, reputedly, so it would not have taken us much to knock their bargain.

My local paper reported today that a bid from Wolves of £2m for Curtis Davies was rejected. If we want him we are going to have to go significantly higher.

Our targets seem out of reach of our pocket. I suspect that we may have one more go at Celtic for £7m, but Celtic won''t part with him for that. There may be some truth in the Beechio deal, with or without a swap.

I expect another striker to be signed, as Kamara has played at something like English Division 1 level, and will not be able to contribute much early on. (This assumes that he gets a work permit!)  I hope that we sign a (central) midfielder as the present incumbents both seem lacking in creative ability, and a central defender ought to be a target.
