2 Defensive errors against Liverpool were no worse than last seasons.

3 Bassong didnt play against Liverpool (doubt the outcome would have been quite the same if he had, but IF he had played and we still shipped 5 it would be greater cause for concern).

4 We still havent lost to a side likely to be fellow relegation candidates.

5 If the ref had awarded a penalty against Barnett for the Suarez incident he may also have sent Barnett off with the consequential suspension.

As much as I hate to say it - we are following the classic ''Second Season'' syndrome - we have a respected manager but he has failed to get the team to spark so far - even against Championship teams at home we have only just edged a win - the games at home to West Ham and QPR needed to be wins - hard luck stories count for nothing as they were both must win games and we didn''t do enough to get the 6 points - the team looked shocking in defence yesterday and although Turner is getting all the stick - and rightly so - he was not the only one to make schoolboy errors - Liverpool are good but not great and we could have got a point if the team had performed as they need to - the standard shown yesterday will leave us heading out of this division in record time - and I don''t think Houghton lnows what is needed to stop the slide

I would panic if we had a full strength side out, some of yesterdays game reminded me of the Roeder/Grant years,not pleasant.

Bassong and Butterfield may be able to turn things around when they are fully fit and playing.

GL[/quote]Bassong is a very good defender. The best we''ve had at the club in a long time, but he is not going to help us score goals. Butterfield is promising but has never played a top league game. He is not going to change things around.If we were talking about bringing Bassong, Butterfield, Huckerby (at his best) and even Earnshaw (at his best) back in I might feel a little more hopeful.

Track records and respect from former colleagues means very little if current performances and results are poor, which they are.

Hughton''s main focus was allegedly to tighten up our defence. Conceding more against this team than last time out suggests that he''s so far failed in that.

Not sure why Bassong is regarded as being the be all/end all for our defensive performances all of a sudden. It doesn''t matter who played, you can''t excuse shipping 5 goals twice in 6 games, especially against mid-table teams.
