Naughton available tomorrow ?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been posted already, but am I right to think Naughton will be available tomorrow, otherwise surely Drury would''ve been rested ?  But I thought Naughton couldn''t play against Spurs ?

If I''m right, it made perfect sense to bring him on for the last 15 mins to sharpen him up.

No its a premier league rule, players aren''t allowed to play against their parent club.

Unless there is some way to work around it, but i''m fairly sure its a set in stone rule....

But your right, seems strange that Drury played. Not sure he''s even played two saturdays in a row, yet seems very likely he''ll have to play tomorrow. Unless he chucks Lappin in at LB.

I don''t find it strange at all at Drury played yesterday for 70 odd minutes. He''ll be started against Spurs unless Lambert can think of anyone better there, and what better place for him to get some game time and get used to playing with the new partnership of Bennett/Ward than at Carrow Road?

Admittedly it could have been a disaster had he got injured, but at least we know he''s fighting fit and ready for 90 minutes against a deadly Spurs team.

2 games in 3 days is a big ask for the old boy, especially when you look at who he is likely to be playing against

But Lincs, Drury has barely managed two games in a row this season, Lambert seems reluctant to play him all the time, so Naughton has been on the left as well.

If Lennon is playing tomorrow, a less than 100% Drury could really struggle. No full back has the pace to stop Lennon really, but if Drury is going to be knackerd half way through the game because he played 70 mins on saturday as well...

In his post-match interview on Cabbage Call, Lambert definitely said that he put Naughton on for the last 15 mins to give Adam a rest in advance of the Spurs game. Case closed!

My thinking exactly.

I have a vague memory that someone on here said Spurs had waived the rule about not playing against them.

I guess we''ll find out tomorrow afternoon !

I think you''re doing Drury a diservice here.   He is an experienced player, well up to any defensive demands put on him - including Lennon.   And he will last the ninety minutes if necessary.    It could be Lappin on instead though, especially if we go 3511 again or 352.    Maybe both of them! Who knows. Its always interesting waiting to hear the team sheet these days!  [:O]

2 games in  3 days, he`s getting on, a young player  would struggle?

I have huge respect for Drury, but it''s tough for any player, especially turned 30, to play 2 games in 2 days.  So given that Naughton has been more often in the team than Drury, I''d have expected Lambert to start Naughton if Drury is playing tomorrow.  I take the point people have made about bedding in the back 4 of Drury Bennett Ward Martin before tomorrow though.

Be interesting also to see if we go 3 at the back instead.  Given the goal we conceded to Duff at Fulham, and the wing threat from Spurs, if Lambert starts with 3 at the back it will confirm my view that he''s really viewing our run in as preparation for next season.

oh for christ sake, some of you on here really do my head in.

At 34 Drury is being called an old boy?   2 games in 3 days?

Get a grip will ya! he''s a professional footballer more than capable of playing 2 games in 3 days. What about the likes of Giggs and Scholes they too old to?

Drury is the only option we''ve got for left back the bloke is a legend. No way should 3 centre backs play with all the pace tottenham have down the wings.

Just enjoy the game, no one expects to get a point. Let''s hope we can get a point like the last visit to white hart lane.
