8th = Europe?

Recommended Posts

No. Only 5th place guarantees qualification for Europa League with 6th and 7th depending on the two cups. For us to qualify for Europe, we need two teams in the top 5 to be in the FA Cup final, then we will still need to finish 6th (or 7th if Liverpool are above us).

unfortantley there is a decent size gap between 7th and 8th esp in finances and even more so if liverpool win their game in hand. maybe we can do it but looks unlikley shame though because with our history in europe im sure the competetion would have been taken seriously by the fans.
You can only have 4 teams in the CL
I realise it would be nice but don''t you think we should learn to walk first.

If domestic cup competitions put our Premiership survival at risk why would we want to qualify for a European one with all the traveling that entails ? . As for qualification,had we put in a performance last weekend like we did today the FA Cup route would still be open to us , and we still would have had 35 league points on the board.

This is the same Arsenal and Chelsea that are 4-0 and 3-1 down after one leg right?

But as has already been said you can only have 4 teams in the Champs League. If one of those won the title and finished 5th then the 4th placed team would go into the Europa league.

NCFC you''re absolutely correct if we can''t take the domestic cups seriously why on earth would we try and gain a European Place.?

 Our season is already over and congratulations to all concerned in retaining our premiership status (I know mathmatically we still need a few points but I bet the bottom three get less than 35 points this season). Let''s face it we will pick up points between now and the end of season. - any of you see the Gerrard interview on Football Focus - the premiership is the big prize for the club but as a player it''s about winning trophies! quite right Stevie G.

If the players were so bothered about winning in the FA Cup, why didn''t they try a little harder? And especially the league cup.

Lambert did not tell them to go out there and lose last week, or against MK Dons. He probably said its not as important as the league, but that doesn''t mean its not worth paying attention to.

We didn''t play a weak team last week, we just didn''t play well, thats down to the players as much as it is down to Lambert. Do you think Morison was up for it last week? Jackson didn''t run half as much as he does normally, Hoolahan was just running around trying silly shots, Bennett was too busy trying to cover for David ''doesn''t want to tackle'' Fox.

Why would the players be all that bothered about putting the effort in the cup, when they know its going to be hard, they know there probably going to draw Spurs or Chelsea, they know the financial reward (for themselves) probably isn''t going to be any greater than finishing top half of the table (well it probably is, but its not as likely to pay out). Huckerby, said in his book about how much he just wanted to play, and obviously wanted to win, thats whats important to the players as much as anything. They are (for the most part, Joey Barton aside) playing football, because they like to and are good. They want to be paying for their team, winning games. Ok they would love to win the FA Cup, but so many players in recent years, just don''t care about it.
