To hide or not to hide?

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking... would it be better to keep the result of the Cardiff game from the players before our match with Pompey or not? Do you think it would decrease the amount of pressure on us, and the likelihood of bottling it knowing the Cardiff result. Do people reckon it''s even doable by Lambert''s standards (hiding phones, isolating players etc. etc.)?

I dont think it will be possible, unless all the players decide to turn off their phones and ignore anything they hear from the stands. However if it is and I was Paul Lambert I would tell them all now that they wont be hearing anything about the Cardiff result before they play against Portsmouth. Only to suddenly tell them that Cardiff have lost (if they do) and so to play without pressure right before the game starts.

I think they will know the result if they want to, but PL and team will just say, if you win your two games, you''re promoted. Simple as that. Doesn''t matter what Cardiff do.

Surely he players would need to know as part of what our game plan would be?

If Cardiff have drawn or lost and we go into our match either level or above, would we need to go all out for a win?? when draw would take it to the last match with it still in our hands?!

We don''t play like that, we will go out to win the game whatever the Cardiff result is.

We know what we need to do.

Our fate is in our hands, so knowing or not knowing other results is irrelavent.

Agree.  From experience if we were to play cautiously following Cardiff dropping points, it would end badly.

Actually I think it''s an advantage that Cardiff play first because they know that if they lose, it could be all over next Monday - talk about pressure.

But I''m expecting the way it went yesterday and the quality of players that Portsmouth have to prevent any risk of complacency.  Realistically it would be no surprise for Cardiff to win their last two games, and we simply have to match them.

If Cardiff lose by one goal, what''s the point playing for a point? As the only instance in this case (i.e. Cardiff losing) were a singular extra point would benefit us, would be if we drew our final match as well, and they won. If that happened, they''d almost certainly move above us on GD, having been level on points.

If Cardiff lose, it gives us license to go ''full throttle'' for the win from minute one in my opinion. A draw for us would (again, in that case) have as much benefit to us as 0 points.

what happens if Cardiff draw with Boro, and are then level with us on points (but with a better goal difference) when we kick off. If we are drawing with 5 mins to go , do you go all out for a win but with leaving yourself open at the back and losing a valuable point that would see us above Cardiff going into the last game, and risk throwing it away and then going into the last game on the same points but with -2 goal diff???......the players have to know !!!!!!!!

They will be completely focused to go out and win their game, that is all, regardless of results around us. So I am guessing they will not be told until the job is done [:)]
