Tumbleweed 106 Posted April 10, 2011 The header says it all. I felt from the start that we simply had the wrong set up last night. Their first two goals were exceptional but we couldn''t really get in the game for an extended period except when they sat back in the last 10. Swansea are known for having two great wide men in Sinclair and Dyer and against a narrow midfield diamond they made hay. We should have gone 4-5-1 with Lansbury and Surman assigend to the flanks and Crofts and Fox holding with Pacheco in the centre behind Holt. Mind you some time you can''t legislate for moments of brilliance and although we should have cleared the ball well before the second goal, the first was sublime. I don''t think we helped ourselves, Lambo just got it wrong in my book. However chins up, would we have taken second with 6 to go? Too right we would....................... sgncfc 1,330 Posted April 10, 2011 Sorry, I don''t see that at all. Sinclair barely had a kick, and although Dyer had more of the ball he didn''t really cause us any damage. I think it was actually the other way round - Swansea set themselves up to counter us, and without the one good free kick which he''ll probably never hit again, and another fluke that Lansbury should have closed down, we would have been the superior side.My point being that there was nothing wrong with our formation - we just missed our chances, and they were easier than the ones Swansea scored. Morisons Prozac 0 Posted April 11, 2011 Seems to me we focused too much on Dyer and Sinclair and gave the others too much space.

Salopian 1 Posted April 11, 2011 Our fullbacks certainly struggled against the Swansea wingers, although it has to be said that apart from the freakish third goal, when the rest of the defence were upfield, goals did not come from the wings. I think that Whitbread especially and Ward also were a match for any crosses, Swansea certainly had sveral corners which failed to cause alarm.I would have to say on the basis of this match there must be question marks against both Martin and Tierney. They would meet even better wingers in the Premiership.
Damo 0 Posted April 11, 2011 Have to agree with this too. We haven''t played against many teams that have their wingers switch flanks often. I think it was a case of showing Swansea a bit too much respect if you know what I mean. We were far too willing to let them play their game. They on the other hand knew that if we were given time on the ball, we could fashion an opening and cause them problems.
