Lansbury & Barnett till the end of the season = Promotion?

Recommended Posts

This season is starting to have more and more comparisons with the year we got promoted last time to the premiership.

- an average squad on paper

- an organised, disciplined manager who gets the most out of the players

- A centre-forward that may not be the most agile but puts himself about, the sort of players managers/defenders hate playing against, winning fouls against constantly

- A tricky small player that maybe get knocked off the ball here and there but can create that moment of magic

- A solid young english keeper, getting better and better with two centre halves infront of him that clearly have a good understanding built

- two quality loans brought in around october/november time to push us up the table

- a midfield engine man that harries and runs up and down all day, chipping in with the odd goal and a fans favourate

...the last time we beat derby county away?....

Lansbury and Barnett till the end of the season = Play Off place IMO, we won''t get top two.

We are only a win and a draw off second. Never say never.

barnett will help - although centrally we looked uncertain again yesterday - although most of the errors seemed to sit with ward. It definitely needs improving

However I do think that Lansbury could be a hux moment for us. He seems to work hard yet has the footballing quality that mean Arsenal have him on their books. Would certainly help to get him for the season. Give us so many more options - which would mean we get more space for surman/hoolahan too...

To get automatic promotion we need to get around 90 points this season.  Currently we are getting about 1.6 points a game, this needs to be c.2.0 to get 90.  That means we need to get an average 2.3 points per game for the rest of the season.  Or put another way we can only afford to lose another 5 or 6 games, assuming we win the rest.  I personally think that is a tall order, but not beyond Lambert and his team.  Barnett will certainly be important, Lansbury would be more than useful, but given his predeliction to getting booked, cover for Holt is just as important if we are going to win another 20 games.

At the moment I think 86 or even 85 might be enough. That would mean improved form for City from here on in and an average of 2 points a game. It looks a tall order but if any of the top 6 can put in a good 10 game run they will be in a very strong position at the end of Feb.

Barnett is making all the right noises about staying and with the form of WBA cannot see them fighting to keep him for their squad.  Will of course depend on us being willing to pay around £500k for him as am sure if we don''t WBA can find someone who will.

Lansbury til the end of the season would be great but still think we need another marque signing to push on for a top 4 finish.  Not sure that we have enough firepower up front when Holt is out, really want to see Jacko and Johnson evolve into their potential but think we will always need Holt to play alongside a n other.
