I wouldn''t say that my top hat and black tie was intended to be fancy dress but turning up as Ronald McDonald might not have sent out quite the right message !!

Truth is I was hoping that by going to a bit of effort on the day was a good '' insurance policy '' in the unlikely event that we would stay up. Had we done so I''d have been more than happy to have looked even more of a plonker than usual as the only one leaping around in funeral black in a sea of luminous beach wear and inflatable alligators.

Still, as I sank into a drunken stupor afterwards I had no trouble getting served in the pubs. Clearly not only did the bar staff feel sorry for me as a Norwich supporter but even more sorry for the prat who went round  London all day dressed like that.......
