Rednapp's analysis last night - a warning City?

Recommended Posts

Extracts from Harry Rednapp''s analysis after the Carling cup semi-final last night are posted below.

Is there perhaps a warning and a lesson for Gunny, Chippy and Dixie here? I suspect so - and they''ve got a lot less time than Harry to sort out something - 9 days!

“There’s a hard job on here, believe me. We need to bring some stronger players into this club.

“We’re not physically or mentally strong enough.

“It’s a football club that’s been put together — I don’t know how by, I don’t know who, but it’s got a load of mish-mash players. It’s scary.

“Our record under me is an improvement but tonight you can see why we are where we are.”

Redknapp is so concerned about the drop he amazingly admitted he plans to pick the weakest team he can to take on Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday.

He said: “That group I’ve got tonight is the only group I’ve got to go to Old Trafford with. I can’t risk players because we have got Stoke on Tuesday.

“So I’ll go to play United with the weakest team I can possibly find. That’s how it’s going to be I’m afraid.

“I’ve got no one else and I’ve got to rest people. I can’t afford it, we’re in a relegation battle.

“We need to get some squad players in who will come in and give me everything and be proud to play for Tottenham.”

Who''ll be our Trevor Hockey or Martin O''Neil?

Mmmmmm I''d be careful about reading too much into anything that ''Arry says Bly.

When he first came in and results improved there was no mention of these physical and mental weaknesses. The general consensus was that Spurs had a decent set of players who had been badly mismanaged and ''Appy ''Arry seemed ''appy to go along with this. Now things have stalled a little and results are not so good he''s bringing up the way the team has been put together in the past and attempting to absolve himself of any blame.

I would agree that we need some mentally stronger characters at our club though [Y]

Seems to me Shack that in Spurs case the new manager syndrome is wearing off and Harry is starting see certain players showing their true worth.

I think it''s a bit early to define his comments as excuses; plus of course he''s putting more pressure on his board to divy up the money he figures he needs.

Did you see Bent''s miss on the weekend. An over-valued player if ever I saw one.

I see where you''re coming from Bly. Still think he''s changed tack somewhat from going along with the assumption that they were a decent side who had been poorly managed by Ramos when it suited him earlier on. Think you''re probably right about him trying to put pressure on the Spurs board though.I saw Bent''s miss, it was awful. The bloke seems to have no discernible footballing talent other than being able to finish reasonably well if he''s played in behind the defence. He rarely contributes anything else to a game which makes it even more amazing that he''s been one of Spurs first choice strikers for most of the season. ''Arry quipped that his wife could have taken the chance in his post match interview, apparently Mr Bent was not best pleased [:D]
Personally I think Harry Redknapp is an idiot who is out of his depth at Spurs.
''Arry is doing exactly what GR did with us. Happy to take all the credit when things are going right, but absconding himself from any blame when things aren''t. Blaming ex managers, how poor the squad he inherited is, how they only had a few points when he took over. Sound familiar?Didnt Glenn used to work for ''Arry.... [:$]
difference is that ''arry usually sorts it out when it goes wrong with his squads, GR doesn''t
Southampton fans would beg to differ [;)]Plus, ask Pompey fans what they think of old A''rry in about a year when they''ve gone bust and are spiralling down the leagues.. no surprise he got out of there as quick as he did.

...and you have to wonder how much those Spurs players are going to give him now that he''s accused them (in as many words) of being rubbish.

Not exactly a great way to gel the team is it?

He''s going to struggle to buy 11 new players in the next week or so.
