AndyJR 0 Posted August 19, 2008 Lewis starts in goal tonight for England under 21''s! Good luck to him I say!! Lewis'' Senior ambitionBy Stuart Mawhinney. Tuesday, 19 August 2008.England v SloveniaInternational Under-21 Friendly7.45pm, Tuesday 19 August 2008KC Stadium, Hull City FCTicket Hotline - 0870 837 0004Group Booking form - click hereCharter Standard Club form - click hereAt the end of last season, Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis was preparing for a well-earned break in Mexico when he received a call to join up with the England Senior squad; plans for that trip to Mexico were quickly shelved for the chance of a lifetime."I got the call on a Friday night and two hours later I was in a car going to the team hotel, so I didn’t have much time to think about it or get nervous," Lewis revealed."Once I was there it started to sink in and I thoroughly enjoyed it."There were six or seven players from the Under-21s in the squad which helped me settle in, and also Dean Ashton, David Bentley and Peter Crouch, who I knew from my days at Norwich City. There were a few familiar faces at least."But what of his holiday that was trimmed so he could travel to Trinidad and Tobago with England?"I had a great time eventually, but I certainly didn’t mind it being cut short to be with England. I would trade any holiday for the experience of being involved with England, it’s a very small price to pay."I was probably in the right place at the right time, but it still happened and it just goes to show to all young players that if you work hard then you will get the recognition."Lewis is currently preparing to face Slovenia for England''s Under-21s at the KC Stadium, and he will use his experience with the Senior set-up as his main motivation to impress both Stuart Pearce and Fabio Capello.A ''keeper with a growing reputation, Lewis cites two moments in the Spring as the greatest moments of his career so far. Achieving promotion with Peterborough last season is up there for Lewis alongside making his Under-21 debut against Poland."Making my England Under-21 debut was incredible," Lewis says. "It’s the biggest achievement probably in my career, along with promotion with Peterborough last year. I have played abroad with different England youth teams which is amazing, but my debut for the Under-21s is the most special for me."Tickets are on sale now priced £10 adults and £5 for U16s and OAPs from the KC Stadium ticket office either in person or by phone on 0870 8370004. Mister Chops 7 Posted August 19, 2008 I hope we built in a decent sell-on clause for Lewis, he looks class.
BunnyB 0 Posted August 19, 2008 I think roeder made the rite call with him, he wasnt going to get a regualr first team spot here, so he let him go and furthure himself and his carrere, if Lewis makes it big he will Roeder to thank.

DDD In The Fine City 1 Posted August 19, 2008 People always seem to forget that Joe had to move on for his career and probably wanted to cos he wasn''t first choice here. yet all we hear is "how could the board let him go" blah blah blah. there is no way he''d be doing what he''s doing now if he was still a norwich player. Ok then, what do the well run clubs do, if they have a good young prospect who they think will develop into a top player. They sell him do they? No, what they tend to do is send them out on loan, but keeping ownership of said player to be part of the long term future of the club. What do we do? First offer of a bit of cash we are scrabbling on our hands and knees for it. We better have a bloody good sell on clause. Lewis was sold for one reason only, not to develop his career, but to get cash into the coffers, to offset the pathetic, miserly excuse for a transfer kitty. Lewis is quite possibly the future England keeper, and we sold him for 400k. Well done.
Bobert 0 Posted August 19, 2008 Yes Barclay Boy that is just what the Club did and its my bet that is why we lost the Goal Keeper coach too. I think the Board give the Manager, any Manager, too much power and that is because the Board does not know enough about football. To be on the Board you have to have money (that is why the Turners are there) or be a lacky ( the reason Munby is there)..... you don''t need to know about football and that is for sure.
