Matty Gilks at Wembley

Recommended Posts

He''ll be there on Monday to watch his mates and his home town club who gave him his start in football take on the might of Stockport for a place in League One with the additional thrilling  bonus for the winner of being home and away to Colchester United.

It''s just the way that football works, of course, but no doubt he will be thinking that if Norwich City had not come in for him it would almost certainly have been him running out for Rochdale.

I''d like to see them do it in their Centenary Season because they''ve been stuck in League Two for 34 years - longer than any other club - and it is their first ever appearance at Wembley.

I think it will be a very tight game, however, and this is one which might go to penalties.  Rochdale have the superior fire power up front but, that said, Stockport have had a consistently steady defence throughout the season.

It''s a shame, Gilks is an excellent ''keeper and could easily cut it at this level, if not lower Prem.  Thing is, you do need 2 quality ''keepers and only one can play, and it''s such a shame we will probably never see him in a City shirt.

I doubt he has any information at this time. I believe his concentration is entirely personally focussed.

He''s a nice lad and neither he nor I would have taken your comments personally I think.

But he is 26 in a couple of weeks time and has wasted a year of his career.

That is NOT a criticism of Norwich. No way.  He was hired by one Manager on the promise of "I''ll give you a run" and then the Manager got blown out and another came in who was not able to give him a run.

But he did sign on the promise that he would be given a run.

But that is football and it didn''t work out as it turned out!

No argument at all there Cam.  Like I say, the problem is that you do need a good second goalkeeper...but if they''re that good they should, and would want to be, playing first team football.   For me it''s the most difficult position to fill, even if I personally see no reason why it should be treated with any more sanctity than the forward positions.  How often does a goalie have a bad game in the Championship and get dropped next game, compared to how often a dodgy striker gets the shunt?

The problem is, I think, that some outfield players can play in different positions outfield.

But there''s only one keeper..........

They found a way around it in Escape to Victory, maybe you should lend him the DVD and see if he can come up with anything?

LOL!  Good idea.  And if Laurie Sivell''s still in goal for The Germans anything could happen!
