HUCKERBYS FINAL BALL

Recommended Posts

I am a great Huckerby fan but he needs to work on his final ball and get his shooting boots on. If yesterday, a minute before Plymouth equalised, he either shot on target or squared the ball Norwich could of ended up winning 2 or 3 nil. In the first half he made 3 or 4 great runs but on every occasion he just couldnt produce a killing final ball.

I just cant understand why Huckerby wasnt played up from yesterday alongside Dublin.I''ve thought for a number of weeks that Hucks is wasted on the wing, and when i saw McVeigh upfront with Dublin i really did want to cry.The youngster Eagle is a superb crosser of the ball, probably one of the best at the club, ok he isnt the quickest of players, but then again neither is Beckham and he''s created a few goals from the wing in his time. While Earnshaw is out, Hucks needs to be played up front with Dublin imo with Eagle on the left.

He needs some slack on this one !   face it , he`s been nominated a winger  for the last three godam years,   now  that genius Grant wants him to be a winger , a defender , AND a striker  !!   he hasn`t mentioned a goalkeeper yet ..... but its only a matter of time  [O] .

Having said this  , you should look at how many misses from Earnie !  and HE`S  parked his arse  plumb in front  of the goal  , HE doesn`t have to thread his way through   defenders trying to kick him to death  in order  to get a shot in  !  [li]

And here lies one of the fundamental issues with regard to the wonderful game of football that has its extreme high''s and low''s. The difference between success and failure is wafer thin and had Huckerby taken his chance and we won the game the postings on this messge board could possibly have been much more positive. Huck''s sure can be frustrating sometimes but as he can be a real crowd pleaser I think we will just have to accept this weakness from time to time. I''m not sure at this stage of his career he is drastically going to improve this part of his game.

He actually has no need to  " improve " his game , whats  happened is that the team , as a whole , has deteriated !    well,  we ALL know this anyway ,   Hucks  is often left to fight a lone battle , he gets little , if any support   when he gets the ball  ,   as  his " team " mates appear to be too slow witted   to keep pace with him .......  or maybe they just can`t be arsed  ?  [:(]

What he was doing though was making the right choices - he just wasnt getting the ball through to his chosen player and when he did Etuhu fluffed the chance - with confidence the ball would have made it - that is the difference between hux and croft at the mo - hux is making the right choices but not making it count - whilst I am not sure what croft is trying to do most of the time.   Croft can and will only get better though the more games he plays.

For me this sums up the lack of confidence in the side - on song and we would have been 3/4-1 up instead of 2-1 down.

Croft and Hucks certainly haven''t really been delivering the crosses too well recently, but you seem to be neglecting to include Saf in this indictment of our crossing, but he seems to take all the corners when he''s playing but seems to, without fail, either hit the first defender or plop one straight into the middle of the 6-yard box for the keeper to take at will.   You can''t complain about his free kick, it was on target and well aimed, but each of the goals should have been saved yesterday, poor keeping certainly letting the 3 dead ball goals in.

I am with those who think Hucks ought to be played through the middle - if that means playing no one as an out and out left winger then so what, whoever is l/m can do the job.  Hucks is not left footed and it shows - he either has to track back to put it over with his right or deliver a poorer cross with his left - I''m pretty sure that even poor defenders are wise to this now.  Also, my memory is iffy but did we not win the title with Hucks playing off Iwan/Sven? IMO that is where he''d be best particularly with no Earnie, getting the balls that DD knocks through.

I don''t agree with this thread at all. During the second half (after Mcveigh came off) he had a period of putting at least six or seven very reasonable/attackable crosses into the Plymouth box in as many minutes. The problem was that we didn''t have anyone with confidence/gumption to attack the said crosses - this passage ended with Doherty steering a free header (from penalty spot) miles wide. I think he also got a few decent balls into the area during the first half. To say there was no end product from him isn''t true in my humble opinion.
