At last? 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Remember the bad times to appreciate the good.Newcomers (where were you in 1999 home gates averaging 12,000) dig out your history books to truly appreciate what we are about to experience.Other lowpoints anyone?
Thirsty Lizard 3,215 Posted April 19, 2004 Well Chase had gone by the time it happened, but I don''t think I''ll forget in a hurry being 2-0 up at Crewe with 5 minutes to go and losing 3-2. (I even think that a certain M Rivers was on the scoresheet for the Railwaymen). And speaking of the dearly beloved Mr Chase its less than 10 years ago that we had police horses charging up and down Carrow Road. Temp the Revelator 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Definitely, Boxing day (1996?), wet snow in the air, a crowd of 13000 (on Boxing Day at home!), a dismal 1-0 home defeat to Southend (SOUTHEND!!!), followed by an angry demonstration outside Carrow Road. Even a rumour went round that Eadie had been sold, as no-one had seen him at the ground..........dark days indeed......Doesn''t half make you appreciate what we see now, doesn''t it? Pyro Pete 2,353 Posted April 19, 2004 What is this, a masochists thread? I''d rather leave the bad times in the past where they belong.Having said that, the police should still be ashamed of the way they treated the fans during those protests. Disgraceful. Just 9,900 turned up, the lowest in a decade I believe.Kenton had a mare at left back and we were 2-0 down by half time. Kenton was subbed for his own sanity and it looked pretty bleak. Then we came out in the second half all guns blazing and two young players with enourmous promise contrived to score 3 goals between them.... it was Bellamy and Llewellyn as I recall. At the end Brum scored an equaliser to make it 3-3 but we went home happy cos we''d shown fight, and seen some exciting quality for the future....But that crowd figure - imagine Carrow Road only being half full now!Ama
Graham Paddons Beard 2,789 Posted April 19, 2004 I stood in the River End and watched us go three down to already relegated Leicester some time in the 80''s. The result meant that we went down, after going on what we all hoped would be a saving run. Steve Linex got two if not three of the Leicester goals. It was a very bad day... At last? 0 Posted April 19, 2004 Conversly, DD it brings the current good times into sharp focus and makes us realise how lucky we are.Obviously you are a young un and you don''t remember incidents such as watching Coventry beat already champions Everton who fielded a youth side to send us down, or Gunny breaking his leg at Notts Forest and us falling from 7th place to relegation.Makes current events all the sweeter my friend.
