YankeeCanary 0 Posted June 10, 2006 It''s nice to see that Charlton are putting a statue in place to honour Alan Curbishley. It might be appropriate to put a statue in place at Carrow Road of Nigel Worthington. The inscription should read:"I''m not bothered what the fans think"and every future Norwich manager being considered should be required to study this statue as to what not to do before signing on the dotted line. komakino 282 Posted June 10, 2006 A statue for Worthington would negate the need for public toilets...

Trent Canary 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Although he is a legend, it is worth remembering that Curbishley took five seasons to get Charlton out of division one. And if the attitude of the Charlton crowd had been anything like ours last season Im sure he would have been hounded out way before he got them near the premiership.Infact having looked at Wikipedia, his first season was described as, "1992-93 began promisingly and Charlton looked good bets for promotion, but the sale of midfielder Rob Lee to Newcastle United counted against their chances and in the end they were unable to achieve even a playoff place."Yep, think we would have barracked him out of the club way before any success occurred. YankeeCanary 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Trent, in the 11 seasons that Curbishley had sole control of managerial responsibilities at Charlton I would have to say he did very well with what he was working with. Worthington has had half that time ( 5 1/2 seasons ) and, while I know it is speculation, I honestly cannot see him coming close to matching Curbishley''s record if given another 5 1/2 seasons. Bear in mind please, I am only speaking from a performance standpoint. The thrust of my opinion against Worthington is he really does not show the respect to the fans that a quality manager should. If you read all of Curbishley''s background this was an area in which he excelled, his relationship with the fans...always able to come across as a man who gives an honest opinion of what''s occurred, good or bad. 0peteddMMyyyy0Falseen-USTrue 0 Posted June 11, 2006 What about the nonour to go to Mr Norwich Geoffrey "now I cant remember his surname died last year 91 begins with W" there was talk but no action. Must be spinning in his grave these days with the inept Board, how about honouring him didn''t he write off £1.2m remember Delia.

[/quote]That I agree with. Have to say Curbs is one of the people in football I respect the most. As for Worthy, well although he shouldnt use what the fans think to make decisions (He as manager, is paid to make the decisions and not be influenced) but to come out and say he doesnt care about them is a different matter. And is a bit out of order. I will add that before this season his PR hasnt been that bad. But that comment, and Foleys one in the eye comment (Which Im gutted he hasnt been asked about) has certainly done a lot of damage.
