The Damned United

Recommended Posts

For our younger posters this is a film about Brian Cloughs 44 day tenure as manager of Leeds United.

The reality was he was not the right fit for Leeds as a club. Although he was a truly great manager.

Many many years later we have our own same scenario. Ben Knapper I am sure in time will be a footballing great but what we need at the moment is an experienced Football head not a young enthusiastic boy trying to learn his trade

I hope he learns the damned United lesson and does the decent and honourable thing and goes

It was also originally a far more subtle and interesting novel by David Peace based on a fascinating if often controversial reworking of history, filtered through the unreliable narration of a fictionalised first person account from Cloughie  and the traditions of English myth and fairytale.

And neither version offers anything like a relevant parallel with us appointing Knapper.  Which is a frankly bizarre analogy although it does make a nice thread title I grant you.

What a completely random post ...

Book is well worth a read though.  Film not so much as it dumbs it down to make it easier to follow and loses a fair amount in the process, although Michael Sheen is pretty good.

Ffs wet your knickers over a loss against mill wall why not?

You miss the part where Clough hated don revey due to a slight when he was the derby manager and how he wanted to get Leeds away from the "dirty Leeds" chest to win attitude.

He publically hated Leeds and Leeds publically hated him and they appointed him as manager.

Using this with Knapper is a stupid analogy.

Go get pissed over new year for FFS.
