BedsCanary 0 Posted December 18, 2005 ...because he''s finally given an attacking role rather than constantly being nagged to "get back and defend".The guy can''t defend and never will be able to defend. Yesterday he was finally given his old role as a striker/winger/attacking midfielder and he caused all sorts of problems, popping up all over the pitch and scaring the Southampton defenders silly. That''s the role he played in our Championship winning season and that''s the role he needs to play in future. Trent Canary 0 Posted December 18, 2005 Exactly right. It was also the benefit of having WLY near him, therefore we didnt have to rely solely on hucks to produce an attacking platform. It also meant he wasnt double teamed as he so often has been.I talked about it a bit more in depth here http://new.pinkun.com/cs/forums/594600/ShowPost.aspx
AJ 1,219 Posted December 18, 2005 yes, its just the fact in the premierleague he couldnt free role as much and HAD to defend but its taken so long to change back.... its quite worrying really
Rudolph Hucker 0 Posted December 18, 2005 But what did any previous formation have to do with constantly running offside, failing to pass the ball (particularly to Drury) before running down blind alleys and looking a yard short of pace?
lucky green trainers 0 Posted December 18, 2005 our central midfield pairing looked solid yesterday, they defended andsupported the attack well. robbo backed up hucks and drury well, givingthem options and support. this left hucks able to concentrate on whathe does best, create chances. Northern Canary 0 Posted December 18, 2005 I agree. but in general the 433 formation suits all the players. Especially McVeigh, hux and ashton
sheded 0 Posted December 19, 2005 It was never a question of Hucks coming back to his best ... its simply that Nigel has finally admitted I`m right , and given Hucks the support he`s lacked all the way through our prem season ,and most of this season! hopefully the days of lobbing the ball to Hucks on the left wing , and standing off while he gets kicked into the air , are over ....We`ve all seen what happens when Hucks has players around him to mix it with , it scares the crap out of the defenders !! Hucks well deserved reputation has always meant he`s marked closely [ surely the ultimate accolade ! ] , Hucks AND support , advancing mob handed , and you have the defence in tatters ...way to go [6]
macdougalls perm 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Yes! Lets hope the lesson has been learned. With support on Saturday he was terrifying their defence. Whatever people have been saying, I don''t think that S''hampton have been playing too badly this season, a lot of the credit for Saturday has to go to our attacking display. I thought thought link up play was superb and the accuracy of Safri''s cross field passing had their defence all over the place. Lets hope we can keep it up.
