Lessingham Canary 108 Posted September 22, 2015 Having been on the site for a while now, and made a reasonable number of posts since joining, I feel I have been studying the many characters on here for long to share my thoughts on the types that come on here, sometimes I get dismayed at the comments (sometimes feel the same about myself when I react to the same comments), quite a lot of the time I laugh (and that’s good) as some people on here are funny without even realising it, but I have come to the opinion that there are only 4 types on here, the Tourist, the Terrorist, the Supporter and the Fan.Tourist; someone who is a casual visitor, who visits the site from time to time, throws in the odd comment and leaves again often for months at a time, don’t really have a strong opinion on anything in life, but the visit gives them a feel for what they believe others might be thinking, and that’s all they need, this gives them enough for when the guys at work are talking football and they feel like they are still in touch.Terrorist; (or Binner) frequently on the site, a bit of a keyboard warrior, who will often play devils advocate to wind things up, they will look to take every post of topic and develop a war of words just to fill the hours of their day, and because they can remain anonymous they feel brave as no one can find them or really question them back, tend to be very opinionated (maybe even hen pecked at home) so this is their battle ground, anyone can become a victim, especially someone who knows that “little bit extra” or something that’s not widely discussed, you are all in their sights.Supporter; cares about the club and the results, rarely gets to matches either through financial circumstance, distance, watch everything from afar, have a strong affinity with the region, the city and the club, this is their lifeline to happier times or something they really want to be associated with, don’t really want to argue, because as a supporter they must always be right, and as individuals who have a higher IQ than most can usually out argue a mere fan, and know how to dismantle a terrorist.Fans; (happy clapper) regularly attends matches, bleed yellow and green, criticise their club, their board, their players (even their captain) at your peril, will only ever see the positives, this is their badge, their history (see the Liverpool banner) their club, will hunt in packs to see off the “terrorists” who will only damage the good name of NCFC, will argue with the “supporter” because they are out of touch, and will readily dismiss the tourist as they have nothing worthwhile to say. This is meant to be a bit of light hearted looking at ourselves, truth that in the main this is a great forum, with a great many posters doing great works (see pup’s efforts) and should be a place for great debate, sometimes we can all forget that and go off track.Question is where are you, what are you? Do you recognise yourself, do you recognise other posters.?.............................. Keep it clean, keep it safe OTBC
westcoastcanary 0 Posted September 22, 2015 Don''t chicken out Lessingham. What we all want to know is how YOU classify us! :-))
Lessingham Canary 108 Posted September 22, 2015 Ha ha, you are on my list westcoast that I am in the last throes of tidying up before lighting the blue touch paper and retreating safely, in the meantime "if the cap fits"

Born Hockwold - South Norfolk. Grew up in North West London. Supported Norwich for 30 odd years... Occasionally gets to a match when possible and city through and through.... I like getting on here to see peoples opinions... Been lurking for about 7 years only joined recently when all the plastic stuff was going on.. Always a good and interesting read. One comment. As you point out, the forum serves all sorts of purposes for different people, but for those of us who frequent it primarily to inform ourselves better about our club and football generally, the amount of serious, informative debate is pretty disappointing. Just consider how Parma''s Masterclass threads stand out as almost unique, not only in Parma''s own posts but the genuine attempts other posters make to enlarge on the insights. Such a shame that other attempts at more serious discussion are generally submerged in a welter of trolling and opinionated high horse-riding.
Indy 3,471 Posted September 22, 2015 What about Migrant? One who through no fault ended in the area and took to supporting the club, has a fan to their base as football is an obsession, but criticises the club when sees fit to do so? Has an issue with those who can''t see fault regardless of the nature, and sits on the fence as in reality if you''re not born within the city inner ring road you cannot be a real Fan and will at some point be labeled a binner.I don''t think we can label ourselves as we each only see life from our own set of eyes.....what I see is not what anyone else will ever see. Lessingham Canary 108 Posted September 22, 2015 You got it Westcoast, and 2 great examples of this forum at its best are Ricardo''s match reports on the day of a match, invaluable to those who want to know more but simply cant be there. And also the work done by Nutty and co in fundraising and keeping the great work going started by Ray (I never knew him) but is top class, and IMO that''s what makes this forum great. cornish sam 1,040 Posted September 22, 2015 I think you''ve missed off a type. I would probably be classed by yourself as a Tourist due to my infrequant posting (<1 post per fortnight on average) but I visit the site at least once a day and read almost all of the threads. The thing is though I can''t be bothered getting involved in petty squabbling so don''t join into threads where it is obvious that will be the outcome (well apart from this one) and don''t have the time to get to games (or even watch them on streams most weeks) so normally don''t feel that I can contribute to tactical debate. However, it is an invaluable resource for me to keep up with (some) informed opinion of how we are playing and what''s going on with the club and Ricardo''s match reports, Parmas tactical masterclass and the inputs from the fag packet accountants alone make it worth putting up with the rest of the carp... I propose you add something for Lurkers to your definitions, something between a Tourist and a Supporter, maybe a Tourter or Suppist
Lessingham Canary 108 Posted September 22, 2015 Cornish Sam you sound to me like a "conscientious observer" so would definitely have you down as a supporter rather than a tourist, which I don''t think you are (or as they say in Kernow, a grockel)
Buh 0 Posted September 22, 2015 I''m a fan and I''ll be the first to admit a bit of a happy clapper. Rather be that than miserable.

Vazzza 62 Posted September 23, 2015 I''d love to know how I fit into this.I''m a season ticket holder but live in Maidenhead. Its about a 10 hour round trip for the home games, and do as many away games in London/south coast area as possible. With regards to the forum, I''m just a lurker. I read everyday at least 2 or 3 times but very rarely post. I do also read "the other site" and probably post on there more regularly than here.I don''t think I fit into your scheme I''m afraid :-P
Lessingham Canary 108 Posted September 23, 2015 Vazza, by process of elimination, you are not a tourist (but do admit to lurking) definitely not a terrorist, and as a season ticket holder you attend a good amount of matches, all home and some away, in my book that makes you a real fan!.
