  1. "Having a smoke is no more negative to your fitness than eating junk food or drinking booze!!!" I am sorry, but that is total rubbish. There are approximately 600 chemicals in your average cigarette, chronic respiratory risks, heart disease, you name it. It is all about choices, and although great players may have smoked, it does not make it the right thing to do if you are professional sportsperson. Think of how much better they would have been if they hadn''t. Players like a drink, most of us do, but although drinking is not great for you body in excess, moderate levels have benefits, both physical and mental.
  2. Crouch contributed to the season so you are spot on, he should be there if his club accomodates his request. Should have no problems seeing out of the bus on the way round either. Could even put McVeigh on his shoulders.
  3. Good Shout. Is he out of contract in the summer?
  4. What is the significant qualities you have noted in Hendry and Elliot??? In the premiership you do need pace, skill and forward thinking. If you lumber about, push people over, wave your hand in the air at every opportunity, and get caught for pace, you will be an easy touch, and soon chasing a lead. FACT. I am not having a pop at Flem/Malky, as they have proved lots of people wrong this year, and have been a major part in our success. He may not need to break the partnership, and I sincerely hope that they both carry on the great work of this season, but to augment the defence has to be a major priority.
  5. Cheers Olster1 I believe he got the boot from somewhere for a good scrap, I believe he is partial to a good row when things are not going well. Seem to vaguely recall he allegedly had a row with Mark Fish at Charlton, although that could have been over his facial hair, which Mr Fish does delicately sculpt into some sort of arrow formation across his chin, or at least he used to. Got to be looking at some quality enhancements, rather than some old bruiser, who cannot get anywhere else. Love him or hate him, Souness was a hard player in his day,and if he cannot tolerate Andy Todd, then do we really want him?
  6. I don''t think his temperament is quite right for Worthy. ability = yes premiership experience = yes attitude = yes temper = yes disruption = likely enhancement to squad = debatable transfer = no
  7. I think he will stay, although I gather he is not the most liked by Worthy, and this is due to points raised earlier on in this thread. Personally, I think he has struggled since his free kick against Grimsby, and the "we got him from Man Utd, so he must be good" syndrome. He has set himself high standards, and at times looks fantastic and makes a change for the better when things get a little too defensive, but he does go missing, and looks disenchanted at times. McVeigh has been given chances, and I think is the most likely, if any to go, but how small can our squad get??
  8. Jonzey, I believe that the midfield maestro is now gracing the field at Rushden and Diamonds, but I am not 100% certain. Another alternative memory, The evening news after Ipswich away, and the quotes from Sheepshanks re "top of the league at portman road", great stuff.
  9. True, his haircut does give him that footballer status, but I understand that his main affliction, and the reason why he has fallen spectacularly out of favour, aside from his temperamental form, is his fondness for Benson and Hedges, and his inability to even consider packing them up. With Worthy the master of fitness and discipline, this has not been well received, and you have to say that smoking does not exactly enhance your athletic abilities, especially if you play out wide. Anyone else heard this one?
  10. I have got three really ... 1) Has to be watching the Reading game on TV, could not go unfortunately, and seeing "that goal" go in. I think I, and many others like me, knew at that moment, we were going up, and nobody was going to stop us. 2) Another moment was walking to Riverside before the Forest game, with the rumours about Huckerby sweeping around, and everybody buzzing about his permanent deal, and the Delia moment before Kick off at that game, which settled the weeks and weeks (probably only a couple of days now thinking about it!) of squabbling for his signature on a permanent basis. You knew then that we were not going to be messed about, and things were getting quite serious in our ambition to better ourselves. 3) Half time at the Ipswich home game, going to the bar six minutes before half time to get a drink to find it four or five deep, and the miserable conversation during half time. Step forward Malky and the rest his history, but it was not good at half time.
  11. I think that Worthy will give them a few games, but he will have to buy another Centre Half before the season starts, to give them the competition if nothing else Shackell, although an excellent prospect, will hardly have them playing for position week in week out. Jumpers, you are spot on though, Worthy will make the change if it needs it, he has shown before that reputation counts for little if you are not doing it on the pitch, which is one of his undoubted qualities. As someone said on previous posts, if they can prise Gabbidon away from Cardiff, then that has to be good business, but I do fear that like other potential names, we may be up against some serious competition for his signature.
