  1. Morning All. Sorry to break everyone''s bubble but Steve Howard has signed for Derby County this morning for a fee of £1,000,000. I personally would have liked to have seen him as an NCFC player. However that''s a lot of money to pay for a 30 year old striker who''s never played at the top level.
  2. Before his accident a couple of years ago then yes. Now sadly a pale shadow of the very good player he once promised to be. Even finds himself behind in the pecking order at Blackburn to the most ineffective striker in the premiership. (Dwight Yorke for those of you wondering....) Personally I don''t think we''ll sign anybody in time by the deadline. Looking forward to being proved wrong though....
  3. Please see the City teams listed below: 8/11/58 City 0 Hull 1 1. Ken Nethercott 2. Roy McCrohan 3. Bryan Thurlow 4. Morgan Hunt 5. Barry Butler (C) 6. Matt Crowe 7. Errol Crossan 8. James Moran 9. Terry Allcock 10. Derrick Lythgoe 11. Bobby Brennan 28/3/59 Hull 3 City 3 1. Sandy Kennon 2. Bryan Thurlow 3. Ron Ashman (C) 4. Roy McCrohan 5. Barry Butler 6. Matt Crowe 7. Errol Crossan 8. Terry Allcock 9. Terry Bly 10. Jimmy Hill 11. Bobby Brennan Scorers were Jimmy Hill (2) and Terry Bly. Hope that helps !
  4. 4 million just because he had a good Euro 2004 ?!? In that case forget it ! I was thinking more around about the £500,000 mark !! Amazing how much more valuable a player can become on the basis of a few good, high pofile games ! ''Henry'' must almost be worthless now, following his disappointing showing in Portugal !
  5. According to Worthy we''re still looking for a centre half and a centre forward. I''ve just read that ''Dellas'' (the Greek defender) is not wanted at Roma and is available. His performances for Greece at Euro 2004 were inspirational ! He is big, commanding, strong in the air & can sneek the odd goal (as in the semi-final against Czech Republic). As Greek players are still considered somewhat ''unfashionable'' I''m sure we could could afford the transfer fee / wages. He also has experience of playing in England with Sheffield United a few years ago. I hope someone reading this has ''influence'' and can advise Worthy (in case he''s not aware of his availability !) as I''m sure he could do a great job for us.
  6. Also in The Barclay Upper, have been for several years now. By my calculations, with the moving of the pitch, should be almost directly behind the goal ! Originally was a season ticket holder in The City Stand before a few years in the wilderness (early 80''s). After that was a regular on the River End before and after it became all seater. (Oh the joys of arriving early to find a good place on the terrace until some six foot six inch lampost came and stood in front of you at five to three !) Stood once in The ''Old'' Barclay against Man Utd in the Cup (won 2-1) when me & my father had to resort to buying tickets from a spiv outside the ground. Yep, those were the days when you could pay at the turnstile ! (It wasn''t that long ago !) Have also sat in The ''Old'' South Stand once in a League game against Reading when the Barclay was full. So therefore have done all four sides but guess I am not alone in that ?
  7. Have always been impressed when I''ve seen him play and is one of those ''exciting'' type of players who could, potentially, be a great signing for us. Incidentally the Sunday Mirror links us (for the umpteenth time) with Peter Crouch. Interesting to note that we don''t ever seem to be linked with any defenders ! Pity as this area is in more need of reinforcement than up front...
  8. Worth a try ? I''m sure I read somewhere this guy is on £90,000 a week ! With an ego as inflated as his pay packet I have to assume you weren''t serious in your suggestion ??!?
  9. Fat chance of my photo being published then ! With the amount of replies I''ve sent I''d struggle to make the ''Ipswich Town 3rd XI'' !!
  10. Personally speaking I find myself agreeing with nearly all the points DD raises. Punctuation and grammar are pretty good too ! (Benefits of a university education ??!?) So carry on the good work !! That''s two posts in one day for me, better slow down before I get accused of being obsessive too !!
  11. No great loss as far as I''m concerned. From what I saw he was no more than an average player who looked out of his depth at times. Mind you I guess £500,000 (I believe that was the price) was a reasonable price for someone with an international pedigree.
  12. You''re right Susie B, the Preston fans certainly did their bit in creating the unique atmosphere that we all witnessed today. If there was one game you would want to take a football ''non-lover'' to in order to convert them then this was it !! A big pat on the back to all those who made the long trip from ''Up North'' ! Sitting where I do (Barclay Upper) I always like to keep half an eye on the behaviour of the away fans. Some of the bigger name teams (Sheffield United, West Ham) could take a leaf out of the book of the likes of Preston and Walsall me thinks. Strange how some of the best team performances I''ve seen this season have come from teams at the wrong end of the table. Preston weren''t bad and I was also quite impressed with Deby, Coventry and Nottingham Forest too ! Funny how easy it is to pass the acolades when your team is top of the league and about to win the championship ! Wonder how complimentary we''ll be to other teams performances & supporters this time next season ??!?
  13. Several years ago while I worked part time at a DIY store in Gt.Yarmouth I served Dale Gordon, then one of our star players. I cut him some lino for his kitchen floor and helped him look for some ''Decra Lead'' for his windows. He came across as rather aloof and all attempts at humour on my behalf were wasted. A couple of years ago I played in a charity game. Robert Fleck was in my team and after the game a naked Flecky asked me if he could borrow my shower gel. Ironically enough Dale Gordon was in the opposing team. Didn''t ask him if the lino fitted OK though ! Have to say time doesn''t seem to have mellowed him at all !
  14. Hi all. This is my first ever message. Thought the time had come to share my thoughts over something which has been bugging me for a while ! How come Lee Hughes is still playing football ? What has happened to his case ? How many other of us would be fortunate enough to still be in employment after something like this had happened ? Surely at best he should have been suspended by the club until the court case. Yesterday Lee Hughes scores the late winner for you know who to keep them level on points with us at the summit. This really riles me ! To be honest I never liked the guy anyway so maybe it''s just a case of sour grapes on my part ? What do the rest of you think ?
