Plastic Scouser 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Have aliens taken control of the Worthington brain? Has he just entered his teenage rebellion years (albeit a few years too late)? Has he suddenly realised that blindly following Wilkinson''s way has been a massive failure? Has he suddenly discovered a new messiah in the shape of Kevin Keegan and the "We''ll bang in more goals than you" philosophy?Should make for some entertaining 7-6 thrillers this season - and some interesting variations on the old 4-4-2 formation - anyone for a 8-2 formation against Southampton?!!!! CambridgeCanary 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Well Plastic, you''ve said concisely what I''ve been longwindedly trying to say on other threads.I think that the tactical plan is to blast our way out of the Championship. I would bet on Dean still being a Canary in a year''s time. As I''ve said on another post, this does make sense in a left field way.We need to score more goals and if we do, the present defence and midfield will be good enough for this league. There aren''t many better defences (even with Flem who, to be fair, does seem to be trying to improve his act)and the midfield is good enough to take on most others and come out on top. I am one of those who thinks Safri will be big this season. When we get promoted, then the rest of the squad can be rebuilt but one thing at a time. If we had won our three matches 2-1 or 3-2 then we''d all be laughing. Another quality striker gives us a significant advantage over every other team in the Championship. No one else will have a strike force anything like ours not even Palace or Wolves and everyone who plays us will be running scared. Ok, they may score against us but we''ll score moreWe all know that Delia and Michael love this club as much as any of us. They are several million pound poorer because they are fans. They are not business people out to make a return like so many club owners. Would you sell Deano?Neither would I. Nor would any other true fan. Why would the Board? It also makes no business sense to sell him. The club needs Premiership football and Dean is a better way to get it than a sackful of cash. The goodwill of the fans is an important asset to any business and the club knows it would lose that if it sold.We know from all that has been said that the Board has the debts under control, There is no pressure to sell.Sorry, I can see no business or football reason for thew club to sell. Many have been calling for another bold Huckerby?Ashton addition to the squad. I think that this is it. If I''m right then hang on. This ride could get really exciting.
Putney Canary 0 Posted August 19, 2005 The transfer window is open for another 2 weeks yet, who would bet on this being the last bit of business we do? Its obvious to all (Worthy included) that we need more bodies in midfield, I''m sure he will sign someone IF the right player comes along at the right price. He has been linked with midfielders AND defenders over the summer, why does everyone one presume we are finished buying?
Alex Harvey-Jones 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Blasting our way out of the division probably won''t work! If you look at West Brom''s promotions in recent years, they''ve gone a long way to doing this with 1-0 wins. Also in our promotion season we had a great defence and didn''t actually score that many goals. Ipswich scored a fair few more yet were let down badly by their defence. Scoring lots of goals is a sure way to win games only if you have a good enough defence to make sure you concede fewer to state an obvious point!I think we may be short of goals from central midfield this year - Huckerby should chip in with a few unless defences continue to mark him out of games and Marney looks good for some but I can''t see Jarrett, Hughes or Safri scoring that many!? 0ridgemanddMMyyyy0Falseen-USTrue 0 Posted August 20, 2005 Most succesful managers over the last few seasons have consolidated the defence as their first priority and it was interesting to read Peter Osgoods article in tonights EEN as he considered our defence to be our weak spot. I would like to see a commanding centre back to partner Shackell then build from there. No good scoring 4 goals only to let in 5.
