CantonsHero 0 Posted January 14, 2012 After being born in 1986, I watched Norwich games on and off with my dad for 17 years; (bit of an exile - living in Scotland, Wales, etc). Never did we watch them win. Ever. When I started uni, I went to the first game without my dad. Norwich vs. Exeter. Draw.My next game was better. A 2-1 win against Walsall. For the next season and a half, we never lost with me in the ground, (which was the only thing that got me through the second half vs. Reading). For my dad though, things didn''t improve: Everton in a friendly, Palace at Carrow Road, and then tickets vs Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.This season I went to Wigan on opening day, then Bolton. Undefeated still.Unfortunately, defeat came against Man Utd (where I was sat with Man Utd fans. Ditto against Villa, again with the home fans.Back to games in the right end though, and my lossless streak continued against Everton, and against Wolves. Then I did something stupid, I bought two tickets to the WBA game, and invited my dad along.---I maintain a 2 and a half season record of having not watched Norwich lose when sitting with Norwich fans. But more importantly, my Dad got to witness his first Norwich win in over 20 years. Bring on Stoke!
Gingerpele 0 Posted January 14, 2012 Good for him, seeing your team even just on and off for 17 years without a win must be pretty hard, glad he''s finally seen a win in the flesh.
Mister Chops 7 Posted January 15, 2012 That''s a nice story, thanks for sharing. My father died in June last year, so he at least got to see us promoted. It took us about 10 years to see a Norwich win together, away at Walsall 4-1 (from memory) - Crouch got sent off and we went 1-0 down (I think). Glad you got there in the end. Tim Allman 1 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks Cantonshero, that''s a good post and a happy story. I have my Dad to thank for starting me as a Norwich fan, even though I lived in London as a child. I’ve now experienced two “being there” promotions (+1 relegation) with my elder daughter who’s also got the City bug.
pete_norw 0 Posted January 15, 2012 I think every fan has a story like that and people often ask me how the hell did I come to support Norwich, being born in Redditch in the early 50''s and the rest of the family been split between B-ham WBA and the Villa, it all happened on my 5th or 6th birthday or there abouts when my eldest brother took me to St Andrews to watch B-ham play Norwich, Norwich thumped them 4-1, now I didn''t have a clue that Norwich were the team in Yellow we stood on the Tilton and I cheered all Norwich goals. I had to rely on sports reports and papers to follow City after that, untill I enlisted into the Royal Anglian Regiment Boys service stationed at Bury st Edmonds in 1966-69. where I met up with local Norwich lads and we used to Hych a lift to Norwich for every home game we all wore uniforms and sat in lower Barclay, Perhaps some of the older posters may remember seeing us there were 6 of us we had some great times befor and after the match, Always took the train back though.
