The Future

Recommended Posts

We are now about to face the defining moment in the future of our Club. It has been as good a start as we could reasonable expect in the Premier League created by the confidence from two fantastic years, the ''newness'' of life in this division and a first class motivator/recruiter who has bought this totally honest/hard working group of players together. We now face the hard part. So far we have even been able to take confidence from defeat in that we have put in competitive performances against the bigger Clubs where we have come out with credit. This was not the case on Saturday where we were clearly outclassed although we will not be alone and there was no shame in that. Mistakes were very much in evidence and this clearly could have led to a more embarrassing defeat. Worryingly we do not seem to be learning from earlier defensive mistakes. The key to the future (in my opinion) depends upon:
  • The ability to ride the storm now that the freshness has worn off during this traditionally ''difficult'' part of the season.
  • Whether we are able to recover from this ''dose of reality'' with our confidence intact.
  • Paul Lambert (who has worked miracles so far) confirming his status as a top class Manager by remotivating his squad AND (most importantly of all recruiting successfully in the January window.
I think the next four weeks will give a good indicator of our medium term future.

I don`t think anyone will be worried in the slightest about Man.City. The obvious thing to say is we did better than Man.U.!

I see Newcastle as as winnable as QPR was- seems they`ll have a few players out and their form has dipped. On paper i don`t think they`re a particularly great Prem. side. Let`s hope we can get a result as going into January in a healthy position in the league will help us no end with who we recruit.

Yes it is the middle part of the season.

We are not new to this now, we are in this now. Learning can happen, but it has to happen quick, this divsion is unforgiving. But I feel we have a manager and coaching team that are capable and have proved it (yes in the lower leagues) that their ethos works.

Yes we played Man City, who are light years ahead of us, its almost a cup game, David Fox cost 25k, that is the level we have bought at for some of the first team squad. There were some glaring errors, but do them in that game. Not in the Newcastle game.

I am totally with Mr. Carrow, start of the season I would have said Newcastle is a game where we could get points, yes they have had a tremendous start but I think we are hitting them at the right time, they will be questioning how good they really are and whether the start was just a bit of good form, they have serious injuries and we will be fired up for this game. If Lambert doesn''t play with two forwards I will be surprised, we should relish this game. A time when we can put one over on a team that will finish above us, who have a few problems.

The sooner we get into the 20 point bracket the better and lets hope we have moved close to the 23-24 points by January, plenty of games where we can bring three points to our tally. Fulham, Wolves, Newcastle and QPR.

Don''t see this as a major problem and games coming thick and fast will help us, we have played alot of different players in the last week who will be match fit for this stretch of games. Massive game on Saturday, can''t wait.

The future is now.Not what has happened earlier in the season. Not what may happen at the end of the season, not even what may happen in two weeks time. It''s the old adage - one game at a time - and no amount of prediction leagues or some such are going to help anything other than what happens Saturday.   It may help some people to envisage what may happen at the end of the season, it may even be good to have a long term aim. But essentially all that matters is the game coming up.  No point in setting targets, not even survival in the league, because - ultimately, if we have the right attitude to each game as it comes up we would survive anyway. All the fans wants and desires for the season can be detrimental to a team that has to focus on the now - the upcoming game. It sounds a bit philosophical, but if fans - and players - start worrying   about the end of the season - it takes away their focus from the present, and boy do we have to be focused at matches - players and fans.I keep saying it - because I see it every week and read about it on here - we can''t afford to be worried/complaing/nervous at games. Its been said so many times that the fan''s attitude can affect players (and vice versa). If we just concentrate on the game at hand the future will take care of itself.

We''ve got a good chance over the next 3 games, Newcastle, Everton and a massive, must not lose game away at Wolves.  Realistically, if we can get something from the Newcastle game, we have potential to get something from the next 2.  Everton are not anything special, and we''ve seen Wolves are poor too.  4 points is a very realistic target from the next 3 games, and will see into the new year still 2 or 3 games ahead of the bottom 3...
