Col Canary 0 Posted January 14, 2010 The 2 closest pubs to the ground (Bricklayers Arms and Dog & Pheasant) are "home fans only".Below is a list of pubs between the station and the Town for those looking for a pre/post match drink. The Norfolk [B][B][B] - closest to the station and designated "away fans" pub. Sky TV & pool table & Greene King ales.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=115Its going to be rammed in the Norfolk, so here are some alternatives you''ll find as you walk down North Station Road in the direction of the Town Centre:The Albert [B] - Beefeater restaurant but they have a bar.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=2The Victoria - They sell beer and thats about all to recommend it. Even the locals don''t drink here!http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=178Quilters/The River Lodge [B] - Large place with big screen Sky. No real ale.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=216Ye Old Marquis [B][B][B] - Sky TV, pool, food, London Pride ale.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=196Wig & Pen [B] - On the High St right in middle of town. Sky TV, food & shoppers.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=191Fat Cat [B][B][B][B] - Best CAMRA pub in Colchester. Loads of real ales. Landlord is a Norwich fan with family links to Fat Cat Norwich. Far side of town on Butt Rd so best to either park in Town or get a taxi if coming by train.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?mode=viewdetail&pub_id=199There are also plenty of other places in Town inc. usual chains (O''Neills, Yates, Edwards, etc)
corbs 0 Posted January 14, 2010 Is not the Fat Cat walking distance from the Train station (and on the Shuttle bus route)? I heard that Hospital Arms and Hole in the Wall, Arts Centre were also Ok? Any thoughts.

All 3 are in the Town and a bit closer. The Odd One Out is another great CAMRA pub but this is even further out on Mersea Rd. Its close to Colchester Town station but this station is on a branch line. To get to Town station you need to change at Colchester North but the trains are not that frequent.http://www.colchestercamra.org.uk/pubs.asp?colchester

Cheers[/quote]I would go in the station car park. Its a massive car park and should have plenty of space on a Saturday. Will cost you about £3 I think. If you want free parking you could go in Asda, or the Wickes car park but its at your own risk.

Fat Barman 0 Posted January 15, 2010 Oi! Blackmore! Are there NO lengths to which you will not stoop, to prevent poor James attracting folk to the Fat Cat???How''s it going old chap? (and when would you like me to deliver to you? James usually only sells Honey Ale from us, so I can offer you an exclusive deal on several other Fat Cat beers [:D])Big change from the days at Layer Road, I''ll bet - you''re sorely missed in the fine city of Norwich!
