Ricardo's Report v Wycombe

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, a bit later than usual thanks to a celebratory pint of Peroni in the Workshop on Earlham Road.

Well'' what are we to make of todays game? I was always confident of 3 points today but when I arrived and saw the team sheet I must confess to a feeling of trepidation. The new manager certainly freshened things up but left himself very much a hostage to fortune with the defensive qualities of the back four in my opinion. However the boys started well and we were treated to as good an opening 30 minutes as we have seen for a long time. A great ball in from Lappin was rammed home by the impressive Grant Holt and Korey Smith smashed an unstoppable low drive in to make it two nil. When Semaphore netted the third I was beginning to think we could be on for some sort of Carrow Road record but the old defensive frailties soon cropped up to put a doubt in the players and the crowds minds.

What was Askou thinking when he allowed that through ball to bounce instead of getting a first time head to it? Wycombe''s second after the break owed much to the fact that their big centre forward had too much strength for Spilllane and I still wonder if dropping the Doc was a good decision. I know a lot of you don''t like the guy but in my opinion he is still the best centre half at the club and I don''t think he would have allowed himself to be bounced around in the same way.

Askou redemmed himself with a fine header from another beautiful Lappin cross and Holt showed us what a cool finisher he is with a nice goal after being set up by Cody. Man of the match for me was Grant Holt. I thought he was a league three trundler and was just an old fashioned centre forward with strength and not much skill but he has revealed himself to be so much more than that. He has two good feet and pretty decent passing and control for a big man. I can''t see how he can possibly fail to net at least 20 goals if he keeps fit.

All in all it was a good performance and it has certainly made us feel a whole lot better about the future.Remember Holt and Cody were Gunny''s purchases so the guy didn''t get it all wrong did he?

[quote user="Mister Chops"]Good write up as always, R.  If the Workshop have Peroni on tap then I''ll be drinking there more often.

They have. £3.30 a pint but a lovely drop of stuff it is.
