Ivana_rubyatitz 6 Posted October 30, 2008 Was reading the interview with Crofty and it got me thinking about why we seem to have so much trouble in scoring in the first 45 minutes of games. Are we:1. Just unlucky (seems to have been happening too much to be simple chance)2. Blessed with useless strikers (maybe so, but that would not explain why they do score in the second half and besides I dont think they are necessarily any worse than those at a lot of other mid to lower table clubs)3. Not doing effective preparation on the other team (leading to us not setting ourselves up to play to their weaknesses from the start - possibly down to poor scouting. This is then only really addressed at halftime)4. Trying to hard to contain the opposition rather than on imposing ourselves on games (resulting in being on the back foot and tendancy to fall behind and have to chase games)5. Another reason. What do people think?

My view is that some things are beyond analysis. This may be one and I don''t think any of the above theories really stand up to close scrutiny. The only points I would make are that a lack of confidence often results in a more "cagey" approach at the start of games, which is not conducive to an early strike, and that as players tire,and/or one side has to chase the game, games become more stretched and open, often leading to more and better chances(Arsenal/Spurs last night being a good example). Tetteys Jig 851 Posted October 30, 2008 Definately 4, from what i''ve seen, we''re far too negative, it''s improved the last couple of games, but still not right from the off
