Lord Flashheart 0 Posted October 29, 2008
we all have to higher expectations. face it, we consistant at being inconsistant. Game Over
The standard was set when City competed with the Premiership teams during that memorable season. We expect (and rightfully so) the club to reach that standard again. Such an expectation is hardly too high when it''s something the club has achieved before.
Graham Humphrey 13 Posted October 29, 2008 I''d imagine at least half the teams in the Championship think they should be in the Premier League, certainly looking at a lot of clubs you would think they have the potential to. I think we''d all want Norwich to be there again, but on a personal level although that would be fantastic, I would be happy if we were a top-half Championship team as a minimum, that can at least compete at this level and looks like they could push on a bit further than that (i.e. play-offs). The last couple of years we have seen very little sign of achieving even that and constantly flirting with relegation is definitely below the level we should be. The Fish Seller 0 Posted October 29, 2008 If there was a ranking system applied to League teams in the same way as International teams I''d say in the last generation we''ve slipped down approximately 20 places. Obviously within this time we''ve had good years and bad years but overall we''ve gone from a team probably rated around 14th circa 1978-83 to 34th circa 2003-2008. (Both these periods include a relegation and a promotion).I base my expectations on a combination of what I have experienced and what I am currently experiencing but the pure mathematics of it is biased by what I experienced and ''expected'' in my most formative years. (Youth). This is quite normal human behaviour you''ll always like the music you enjoy as a teenager though it''s a safe bet your children will find it abhorrent. It accounts for every generation having it''s ''Good old years'' and I make no apologies for being able to remember a time when a top tier, top half finish was what you would reasonably hope for, and relegation was just a temporary blip, and sometimes you''d even get a bit of a cup run together.
