Saints set to net Crouch windfall - £500K

Recommended Posts

Did this article on BBC Football bring back sad memories like it did for me ? I know it''s been covered so many times before but "what if" our Board had had the balls to buy Crouch at the beginning of 2004/2005. So many "what ifs" like what if Chase had agreed to O''Neill''s request to buy Windass. For that matter, what if Delia hadn''t bought Norwich City, where would we be now I wonder.

Saints set to net Crouch windfall

Peter Crouch

Crouch scored 16 goals in 36 appearances for Southampton

Southampton will benefit financially if Liverpool striker Peter Crouch moves back to south coast rivals Portsmouth.

Crouch, 27, who previously played for Pompey in 2001/02, was sold by Saints to Liverpool for £7m in July 2005.

Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe has confirmed to BBC Radio Solent that a sell-on clause was negotiated at the time of the England forward''s sale.

It means that Saints will get a percentage of any profit that could amount to around £500,000.

It is understood that Crouch''s move to Fratton Park is unlikely to go ahead until the end of this week, with Pompey set to make an initial payment of £8-9m.

Add-ons over the duration of the striker''s contract at Fratton Park could see the eventual fee rise to about £11m.

On another note, Crouch And Defoe up front could be a very good strike force. Can only be better on the international side of things too.
