moobag 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Dear Delia & CoWe dont ask for much but we really would like you to push towards Premiership survial. We dont want much, we are not greedy & are not asking for the world. We dont want a flash bankrupt club just one that is on an equal standing & can fight for its place.£4/5m would be nice - £2m Lua Lua (quick before he is snapped up)£1M (?) for Dean Richards or the like.£1/2m for others. You listened to us over Hucks & we hope you will again. If you do have plans in the pipeline then please tell us to be patient, but this frustration is killing is.Your RespectfullyNo
morty 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I know what you mean moonbag, nervously saying "I''m sure Nigel won''t let us down" etc is wearing a little thin! I also hope theres some quality signings in the pipeline, I know we don''t have a lot of cash, but how much have we spent so far?? Not very much, I''d expect us to spend at least 5 mil of this pot of gold, can we afford not to? With Mark "benson and hedges" Rivers lowering his sights down the road our squad is so thin you can see through it!! Sign someone please Sir Nige, it''s driving me crazy!!!! DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted July 11, 2004 I''d rather not oversretch this year, get relegated and find ourselves in an Ipswich situation. I know we''ve got a better chance of styaing up if we spend a bit more cash though. Chicken and egg! I''m still in the "Nige won''t let us down" camp
mistersparkle 0 Posted July 11, 2004 it''s all very well saying you want 4/5m to spend on players but what about the money for wages? I think I read somewhere that Charlton''s average wage is 9k a week. You want a squad of around 25. That works out at wages costs of £11.5m a year. I''m with DDiM - i would rather not overstretch ourselves this year and I am relying on Worthy to spend wisely.
Old Boy 0 Posted July 11, 2004 The fact is, NW can''t force the players he fancies to move, to agree to a transfer at all, let alone to NCFC, with its (very sensible) wages policy. He has to pick from what''s available. We don''t seem to be looking abroad much though, which is disappointing because it limits the field. I guess he probably doesn''t want to take a risk on a foreign-based player not settling here, or not fitting in with the rest of the squad. Dangerously small squad at the moment though... Al Yellow 0 Posted July 12, 2004 After all the sucess of last year I think a few fans are finding it difficult to appreciate that we''re now a small fish in a large pool. In financial terms, we may not be saddled with debts the size of Man City and the like but we need to be very careful to safeguard the future of the club. Attracting players comes down to a number of factors. Firstly you need to be able to pay the transfer fee, secondly the wages. After that a player may consider ''can this club stay in the top flight?'', a three year contract is all well and good but if it is signed with a team who are (now I don''t like admitting it either) one of the favourites to go back down. On top of all this there is geographic location, if you are a young player at one of the London clubs or Northwest clubs you can move to another club in the area without having to move house or uproot your family......coming to Norwich is different.I think we may be struggling to bring people in at the moment because of these reasons. The answer is likely to be bringing in decent division 1 players or players from Scotland looking to make the move into the Premiership. Worthy will get players in but I think we will struggle and we may not have as many on board as we would have hoped. Keep the faith.

When you talk about a pot of gold, please can you set out a) how much we receive from the Prem (not the big headline numbers the papers throw around)b) the value of existing commitments that eat into it (additional fees and wage increases for players that were based on gaining promotion)c) existing commitments like the corner infilld) how much debt we are going to pay offe) how much was needed anyway just to meet existing running costs (remember we made a loss of £4.6m last year - that has to be coveredf) what remains to go to Nigel as his player budget. He can choose to spend it on wages (players on a free) or wages and fees combined for a player. So when you talk about £2m for a player who might then want £15k per week for a 3 year contract, that''s a total commitment of £4.25m over 3 years. And bear in mind that we might not have the same income next year....It then all starts to make more sense, because this isn''t a game of CM, its real money. Its also a stark realisation that the board took a gamble last year and if we hadn''t got promotion we''d be pretty stuck by now and looking at selling our best assets. It does mean we made a big loss and that has to be covered, even before we can invest for the future. So unless you''re calling for a Leeds-type ''live the dream'' and gamble on staying up, prudence is the key. That means going for players like Primus, which he is!Ama
