YankeeCanary 0 Posted April 23, 2007 In a season lacking distinction for Norwich but, nonetheless, the beginning of necessary changes, I thought about what has stood out for me. In no particular order what stands out is:The performance of Colchester United....to be in with a shout of the play-offs in their first season after promotion given the size of their club, limited support level, operating on a small budget is an amazing achievement and an example to all of what is possibleAlso to Reading in their first season after promotion to be in a position to challenge for European participation is incredible. Compared to Colchester they obviously have a greater support base and the backing of John Madjeski but, in many respects like Colchester, are achieving results beyond many in their division that possess greater resourcesTo city angel, who I truly feel demonstrates the passion both on this forum and in her support of our club that many can learn from. If there were 25,000 ( or more ) like her driving the club forward both from inside and outside of the club there would be no limit to what is possible.Let''s get ourselves steeled and ready to learn from these examples next season boys and girls. ca 1 Posted April 26, 2007 I have to agree that Colchester have had a great season, they''ve surprised me and everyone else I guess. Small squad, small budget and a small fan base yet look at what they achieved this year. As you say, shows what can be done if you all pull together and get that team spirit and passion going right thought the club. I went down to our away fixture there, the noise their fans made was deafening!Reading have been the Premiership surpise package, sitting at 7th and challenging for European honours, again a smallish club with no big stars but with a softly spoken manager whos passionate about his club and the gameThanks for your kind comments about me but there are thousands like me who support Norwich.Maybe next season we can all pull together, stay positive and really be that number 13 to help them through the difficult times. Gentleman Jim 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Colchester against all the odds are definite promotion candidates and"if" promoted will have to play their Premier "home" gamesat another league ground, possibly West Ham or some club in Suffolk, becausetheir ground is not acceptable by Premier Standards. Strangely when their newground is built it will only be 10,000 capacity so possibly that wouldn''t besuitable either. Either way up I hope they do get promoted.Reading would have got my starrating the previous season too purely by the comprehensive way they dispatchedall their opponents throughout the year and won the league by a mile, then carrying on to a lesser degree in the Premiership.City Angels personal verbal confrontation with PG and players no doubt prompted theexcellent first half display by them on Sunday. Well done Susie, next time youtake on such a venture maybe give one or two of them a little physical kick upthe backside and they may last the whole game.(ha,ha)Good astute post YC, as always. She''s quite right, if we are to mount a serious promotion challenge then it''s not just about the players, it''s about US doing OUR jobs as well and that means getting behind our boys from the 1st minute right through to the 94th minute[:D]. Some would say that 13 is an unlucky number - but not in our case, and let''s demonstrate that against the Saints on Saturday!!
ca 1 Posted April 26, 2007 You''re right Bigmarkcanary, we have an important part to play so lets get practising against Southampton and see how much noise we can make.I''m not a ''Susie'' Gorleston Jim.Back to Yankee''s post who thinks Colchester will make the play offs?
