Moan about Coventry game

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, yet again, truely baffled me.  From the 1st time Hughes was put into right back instead of Colin, I was confused, yet he has done this tactic a few times now, and not once have I thought that Hughes has done better than I thought Colin would.  The man throws himself around, but he has no quality, a sub at best.

Our midfield was shocking.  Did Grant just pick the 4 in midfield and say to Hucks to stay on the left wing but to the others, just to play where they want, or where they can be bothered.  I''m sure Fozzy started out over there, but after the 1st 2 mins, I don''t think we did anything over the right side of the pitch until Croft came on in the 2nd half, except for a miscontrol by Brown allowing him past a defender and to put a cross in, and also 1 cross at the end of the half by Hughes which Brown shouldn''t have even bothered attempting a shot with.  Etuhu, I thought worked relatively hard for some large portions of the game, getting in for headers, etc, but his overall general play seems poor, especially when you have Safri on the bench.

Brown is a strange player, yet another long ball goes to him, he looks at it, takes a run towards it, then runs 2 far so then he has to stop and do a standing jump which the defender then beats him to.  He managed about 2 flick ons, many headers out of play, and his 1st touch was pitiful, I thought Grant said he had good control.  He then doesn''t get into many goalscoring positions except for the shot at the end of the half, which was shocking.  Martin made many runs, a few nice touches, but not much support for him.

I thought Drury had a very good game, even when Lappin isn''t helping him much on the left, he seems to have a bit more confidence about his game, going forward and getting back.  Also, Shacks, in my opinion was 1st to most balls, and had a good game except for some very loose clearances in the last 10 mins.  Hughes, had a typical Hughes game, nothing special, but lots of headless chicken running about.  Gallagher, no confidence in him at the mo.  Doc, was absolutely shocking, possibly the worst I have seen him play, Adebola had him beaten all the way through until he was taken off.

We looked so much more balanced when Croft came on, even though he didn''t have a great game, can''t believe McVeighs last 2 run outs as sub, why he hasn''t worked like that at other times when he has started this season, I will never know, people would soon get off his back.

Overall, except for the 1st 10 mins in which Coventry turned up late to the game, we were poor for the rest of it, except for a few glimpses, which clearly isn''t good enough in my eyes.  It''s true that we have played quite well in the last few games, but yesterday was awful.  We serioulsy need to do a lot better in the next few crunch matches or something unimaginable at the start of the season might become a reality.

It really annoys me that after a season and half of hoofball, which we all know doesn''t work , we resorted to it again against Coventry. Thumping the ball up to Brown only for him to flick on anywhere led to one of the worst 45 minutes we have seen. After half time with Brown off / Croft on we kept the ball on the ground and seemed to have far more purpose.

It beggars belief that supporters can see this but the manager and 2 "extremely experienced" coaches can''t.

[/quote] Surely they did see it and that was why Brown was replaced by Croft?? A team under pressure will often result to hoofball irrespective of what they have been told to do if nothing else is working. We have shown on many occasions now under Grant that we can play good passing football. Clearly this is how he wants us to play and made changes on saturday so we played passing football in the second half!!

Brown showed no signs of being injured - it was undoubtedly a tactical decision in my mind
