lucky green trainers 0 Posted February 14, 2007 been v. impressed with martin - is defo city''s best home produced striker since bellamy. does the simple thigs well, has a degree of pace, vision, excellent close control, very good engine (on a heavy pitch kept going - tackling back to half way line, and picking balls up deep), is instinctive, plays with the confidence of someone who knows they have telent, and more importantly for a striker has good reactions and the knack of being in the right place at the right time to cooly finish. williams has educated him well - lets hope the first team coaches don''t screw up his progress!the boy coulf be top drawer, spurs are reportedly sniffing - no wonder.watching the cr@''p service dished up to him last night though, given the chance, would he mad to refuse an offer from a club like spurs? these are 4 chances that went begging last nighthuckerby breaks deep from inside city half, martin sees him and quickly makes a run between defenders, a ball through puts him clear, but hucks either doesn''t see the run or chooses to ignore it, result - carries on run a loses ball to next defender.hughes on the right wing looking to cross, martin makes a brilliant run from the penalty spot to near post ahead of 2 chasing defenders, a ball into the near post would set a good chance to score - result - hughes steadies himself and loops one into the box, over the head of martin!safri puts in a tremendous inch perfect cross over, martin has found space and cooly dispatches the ball into the opposite corner - keeper no chance - goal disallowed for pushing by brown.opps - i did have 4 examples, but can''t remember the last one - age creeping up.the point is, the boy makes space, makes proper striker runs which could create goal scoting chances - our supporting players either don''t see him, aren''t looking for him or lack the vision and technique to supply him. as far as i''m concerned, martin looks a notch above the rest of our players, apart from hucks, who genrally can spot goal creating passes. Ricko 3 Posted February 14, 2007 Just because a bigger club is reportedly sniffing around doesn''t mean he''ll go. At least he''s getting first-team football at City albeit off the bench - at Spurs he''d be well behind in the pecking order. Aren''t his family Norwich through and through? Counts for a lot. Let''s not panic just yet that the crown jewels are going to be nicked!
One Flew Over... 33 Posted February 14, 2007 1. Huckerby was on fire last night and was after the hat-trick..if he hadn''t carried on runs previously we would have been out of the cup!2. ...well some kind of cross is better than no cross...3. But Brown''s shot did set up his goal in the end, and we were creating chances for the strikers when Martin came on.
blahblahblah 2 Posted February 14, 2007 No player should be wasting their time at City. If we start to believe that individuals are better than the group and have to leave as a result, then how will the group ever improve ? Thankfully Martins'' approach doesn''t concur with this statement, which blights an otherwise insightful post.
Cluck 0 Posted February 14, 2007 He''ll be gone the minute he shows consistency at Championship level. I don''t think it will reflect badly on the lad who may well be Norfolk through and through.......but the league structure dictates that anyone with quality will be snapped up by the top clubs to "bring on"....Part of the joy of being little old Norwich....deep in debt.
