Fluff

The penny has now dropped

Recommended Posts

I have been for quite some considerable time cynical of the board.  I make no bones about this and dont apologise.  Since coming in and taking over we have been patronised, spun and generally ripped off.  I am one of the city faithful that can remember the Chase and South era, and to be honest we were not treated any different in ways, however we watched good football, never ever considered going down to the old division three (league 1) and the fans were passionate.  I even spent 5 years giving up my time voluntarily at weekends for the cause because of how I feel about city, but packed that in last year when the penny dropped about what the board are really about.

All that Wynn Jones and Smith have achieved is building us up but letting us down.  Terms like ''The promised land'', ''5 year plan'' and ''A family club'' have been dished out like Academy sponsorship forms.  All that they have achieved in doing is pretending that the club is on a prudent steady footing when in reality the corperate side is booming whilst the dross on the pitch is demorolising.  Lack of investment in the management team, the academy and the first team has caught up.  OK Worthington has had more to spend than all of the other managers put together in City''s history, but would you have trusted him with your last tenner to get some fags and a paper?  He would more than likely come back with The Beano and and Rabbit!  When you look at all of Worthington''s buys, how many could you honestly say could have got into the team that Stringer, Bond or Brown had built?  Even Safri would have struggled to make the reserves, such is how far our expectations and standards have lowered that he is seen as key.  14K per week for Jarrett?  14p more like.  Ashton was class, but we all knew that anyway.  All in all they might as well have paid off the debts in the first place.

So to see what is happening doesnt surprise me, it sickens me.  The last thing in the world that I wanted to see was this club in a relegation battle, and if I thought it would do any good would give up my soul to prevent it happening. Mind you the board will probably turn this ''opportunity'' into another excuse to issue a  ( *delete as applicable ) share deal / academy fund raiser / ticket hike / buy a brick..................................

here here  . this is a great post . no way chase would  let things get this bad on the pitch. .  i know he put us in debt , but  the flour mill  & ground  round  it came good for the club .as for miss smith & jones  having club at heart  is a joke with mumby saying if we go down we can do a forest . no way a chairman  shouldnt  even talk about going down . time to put  up or shut up . if your a real fan sort it out  & tell us fans whats really going on

I too am hacked-off at the sorry state in which we find our beloved team at the moment.I also feel at times, when we are a  bit peed-off, that we look for someone to aportion blame. Ultimately it stops at Delia, Michael and Neils'' feet. However, players that are not getting stuck in to the best of THEIR ability is not the boards'' fault. If they haven''t the backbone to get their sleeves rolled up and battle on a matchday for the fans then it''s a player and management issue. This team may not be the best we have had, but if people battled and showed more heart, we would be higher in the league on that alone. I''m not saying none battle, just some. The bottom line for me is: Guaranteed wage=====> bit of a run out=====>telling-off on the Monday======>Guaranteed wage.Repeat as necessary.

The most worrying thing about the whole of this shambles is that with the sale of the land and a poor squad, the board have shot themselves in the foot well and truly.  What happens if we do go down? What apart from the ground itself and colney is there left to sell? The whole thing is far more mis-managed than when Chase was in control.  In a way its like when Thatcher privatised everything for a quick fix and then had nothing left to sell on.  Made the figures look good for a while!  Not being funny, but if the majority shareholders do sell out, they will be getting a far better return than any of us could ever hope for.  When you think that all of the resteraunts are in Delia''s name and not the clubs, thats more revenue lost.  The only losers unfortunately are us ordinary fans that pay for the seats and merchandise.Whilst I too believe that our current squad are too quick to take their money and run, you cant blame them for signing on the dotted line.  More than half of them are out of their league in the championship.  I would be surprised if Hughes, Robinson and Docherty would stand out in league 2.  Worthy bought them with the boards blessing.  I do blame them for the contempt that they show us week in week out.

Excellent post.

Forget the ''new breed'' supporter, those of us who have been around for the length of time to which you refer feel the same pain. With the exception of the Huckerby impact & the year or two that it lasted, the past 10 years have been both painful and depressing. I would suggest that we are no better now than we were during that awful Hamilton debacle. Best player/aquisition during past 10 years = Huckerby, purchased as a result of us digging deep to donate money (£1,500 - as my wife reminds me very now & then) for worthless shares. However, after taking us to the premiership and giving his all to the cause, you now have some morons levelling idiotic criticism in his direction. I wonder why - nothing to do with Peter ''clueless'' Grant I assume. Smith & her joke of a board are quite satisfied with where we are as a club, after all our promotion & subsequent premiership season only came about due to ''little Norwich'' - ''punching above our weight''. Smith commented one night in Diss that one of the biggest highlights of her tenure was the ''unbelievable beating of Man. Utd'' during the premiership season - beating the likes of Man. Utd, Liverpool and the like used to be something of a regular occurance in the good old days!. I feel as though we have arrived at the crossroads, and the voice of the fans could play a very important part in where we go from now. Going on the ''league one route'' is one possiblity.

As much as I enjoy coming on here and having my say, I am also in the great position of socialising with other hardened followers who either have no access to the net or dont know what a forum is!  It is talking with these people that has proved that much of the opinion on here is not the minority.

If you take the Worthington fiasco and the meeting at St Andrews hall, how many times did you read on here that the Worthy outers were the minority?  In the real world, it was the KTF '' ers that were the minority.  The same can be said with the board issues currently being posted.  I think if you were to really look into the divide in detail, you would find that the majority of the critics of the board are seasoned supporters that have been round the block several times!
