Brown a target man! Well Varney can do both!

Recommended Posts

Why sign a player that can''t cut it in a mediocre championship team and seems like a Sunderland version of our Hughes, Etuhu, Robinson etc.

I wouldn''t mind if our signings came good but past events don''t fill me with hope. Stop defending this signing people, I have nothing against the lad only for the board that have brought him here, we need people that will stand up and be counted, people that can share Earnies goal burden. If Earnie gets injured, even after this where the hell do we look? this guy is not the answer.

What is wrong with Luke Varney? are the club stupid how many fans wanted Luke and not Brown we should have more involvement, we pay for the privilege for gods sake! Varney is highly rated probably at under 1 million would have been a coup, just like Watford did with Hoskins 1 million.

Sorry guys but if Earnie gets injured we are gonna be stuffed. Sunderland are once again laughing their arse''s off at us, and I don''t blame them, we''d do the same if someone came in with half a mill for Hughes or Robbo or Dickson, so stop bein upbeat and be realistic, because in six months Chris Brown will once again be the topic of conversation on here again and you know in your heart of hearts that it won''t be anything other than to moan about how you wish we could terminate his contract and how we should have gone for Varney, Sharp, Porter, Hoskins, the list is endless maybe we should have tried some of these before moving to our D list.

And notice that there was no competition to sign him just like Hughes and Carl Robinson, I guess that we must just see something in these players that no other club does thats why there is no competition, and we are normally wrong when going for the ones that no one else wants. He''s not up and coming and he''s not old and proven so what the hell are you pleased about.

I''m fed up with the tosh this club feeds us apart from the odd ray of light every now and again to keep us sweet.

Just quikly Luke Varney is about 5'' 11'''' to 6'' 1'''' perfect height and would have fitted the bill perfedtly, for price, target man attributes, goals to take the pressure off Earnie, and has age on his side and is already improving all the time, and is admired by many clubs (in other words competition which like Pearson is an indication that we are competing for a top player that is a wanted man). Brown is a poor teams reject like our Jarvis.

What will he bring us?

A step closer to financial ruin as we have to pay another losers wages for 2 and a half years???

I agree that Varney would be a good option...

There are plenty of promising strikers out there that we should of been in a position of attracting to the club.

While Varney wouldn''t be my preferred choice from the Div 1 strikers, he would probably be the easiest to prise away from his current employers as Cewe are not going to challenge for promotion this season (unlike Oldham, Scunthorpe, Forest and Blackpool.  However I think Varney would cost at least £1.5million plus, as Crewe may have to worry about the relegation trap door if they let him go and do not replace him well (especially as they are likely to be off-loading Luke Rodgers aswell).

Well what can I say, another typical negative comment from someone on here. While I agree Chris Brown is not the high calibre individual we were hoping for, and I for one had never even heard of him until today, I have to also say that we have to give every player a chance.Who here had heard of a certain Lee Croft before he arrived at Carrow Road, because I sure didnt. Look at him now, he''s been a revelation this season when he''s been on song. Give Brown a chance, he''s 6"3 and sounds like he''s got a good touch and skills, and in my opinion i think he''ll a very good addition to the squad. Somebody to give Dion and Earnie a bit of competetion cause lets face it, Dion and Earnie have got nothing to fear when Thorne gets off the bench to warm up down the touchline, they know at worst theyll be dragged off at the 85min mark.If Brown proves to be a good signing and can do a job up front then that gives Grant the freedom to put Dion back in defence. We all know how many goals we didnt concede in the games Dion has played in defence. At worst he''s a good squad player and somebody who can come on and hopefully make and impact, at 6"3 and with supposedly quick feet i think he''ll make more of an impression than the hapless Thorne does when he comes on. Another thing, he''s scored 11 goals in 35 appearances for Sunderland, that sounds pretty good to me. Whats Earnie got? 25 in 48 or something? He''s not too far off that. He''s not been brought here to get 30 goals, we''ve got Earnie for that, he''s here to play Dion''s role and create openings for Earnie and provide much needed target man assistance to the defence.I for one, whilst not bowled over by the signing, am looking forward to seeing what the guy can offer Norwich, i think he''s a great backup to Earnie and Dion, and hopefully can do Dion''s job up front so he can slot back into defence and make it that much more solid alongside Shackell. Now weve covered the attack, unless Earnie goes then we''ll all be clamouring for Eastwood or Sharp, we can concentrate on a midfielder and a defender or two.Give Brown a chance, just like we did with Crofty. He might just surprise us.

'''' Didn''t do much wrong to be honest. Good holding player and chipped in with a few goals. ''''A quote from a Sunderland supporter.....Nuff said.
