Ginja 43 Posted August 23, 2006 Is it just me or were there quiet a few shockers last night...Cardiff 0-2 BarnetCrystal Palace 1-2 Notts CountyBurnley 0-1 HartlepoolBury 2-0 SunderlandHereford 3-1 CoventryStoke 1-2 DarlingtonPlymouth 0-1 WalsallPeterborough 2-2 Ipswich (4-2 pens)Several other teams barely just scraped wins against much lower league teams, I fear for our dignity tonight [:S]
Saint Canary 0 Posted August 23, 2006 I think it''s generally due to the lower league clubs having more to play for. The prospect of getting into the next round, landing a match away to a Premier League club and then pocketing the increased income is far more vital for a club like Torquay than it is City.As many people on this forum think that the League Cup is a "Mickey Mouse" competition I doubt they will be upset if we lose. blahblahblah 2 Posted August 23, 2006 Looks like Worthington isn''t the only manager to hold this cup in low esteem, and quite rightly so when you consider the money available for promotion.Mind you, didn''t Nottingham Forest lose to Accrington Stanley on monday night ? dreamboy3000 0 Posted August 23, 2006 Our reserves beat Blackpool so we are through. A good cup run breeds confidence so i am looking forward to another crap away match in the next round so i don''t have to do haha.

[/quote]They did indeed lost 1-0 but in their position I''d much rather concentrate on the league, especially with the excellent start they''ve made.I think anyone would choose promotion over some fleeting cup success, althought if we won I might be persuaded to ignore promotion for one season. If we won the carling cup but missed out on promotion, how would you feel? angry that we missed out on promotion and that we wasted our time with the cup or very happy with the success, willing to wait one more season. blahblahblah 2 Posted August 23, 2006 I agree entirely UEA, promotion has to be the priority.
