Balanced side?

Recommended Posts

Whisper it quietly but having watched the team today live for the first games this season I thought we looked balanced throughout the team today.

Crnac had an excellent debut on our right and our young LB was decent in comparison to what we had last season if not better. Doyle looks a seasoned pro and Forson (despite some poor moments) had a good game.

Very, very, very early days however, I wonder that if with another couple of additions (midfield and forward positions) in the next week if there is any reason we can't have a relatively good season?

Define a relatively good season? Personally I thought last year was relatively good but I guess it all depends on expectations.

I thought we could have been better placed last season at the end and was disappointed with our eventual collapse.

However, relatively speaking with regards to this season (with the wholesale changes in personnel still to bed in) I feel a spot in the top 8 would be good. Top 6 finish, superb and a top 2 spot ? Stunning.

I think it’s more complex than that.

Last season was a good season on paper, we played really well at times and made it to the playoffs.

However personally I never believed from the performances we were good enough to win it and if we somehow did, to what end? Another inevitable spanking in the PL.

I could never get behind the let’s stay in the Champ and build shouts in the Smith season because we were meant to be building by yo-yoing, but we royally screwed that up.

The landscapes changed so much for us that a good season for me personally is one where we look like we have a long term plan again, and look like we are building something sustainable. So far it’s encouraging.

I agree that last season was al short termism.

I disagree on what a long term plan is needed to stay in the Premier league. Forest went up and stayed up playing in the championship with a majority of players on loan and then signing a brand new team in the premier league. Likewise the only time we have stuck in the Premier league was Paul Lambert team who snuck in out of nowhere. I doubt Lambert and Co were thinking about any sort of plan longing than the season.

I just don’t think either was particularly likely scenarios on promotion.

Lamberts team had huge belief and momentum,  Wagner’s didn’t.

I don’t see our new owners smashing the buy button to keep us up like Forest.
