Then we wanted more and more - with a degree of dissatisfaction. If we finished top ten, we wanted to be top 6. If we were top 6, we wanted to go further and so on. Delia's conditioning and parochial view of football means pro rata the fan base is much less ambitious, happy to be in the 2nd tier - or even exist - and anti EPL. That is the saddest thing of all. The fight has gone and mediocrity is now acceptable in all forms. The real problem with 92/23 was that it led to unreal expectations for the following seasons, given that to get even to where we did was at the expense of almost bankrupting the club. Even though there was no money, people still wanted the club to spend....... Sound familiar? And now, even though the club has been building for four years and is as financially well run as ever - and actually has money - people can't see how good that is. On the field problems, which we are seeing at the moment can only be solved by staying with the policies we have in place now. We cannot spend more money than we have. To so otherwise is to put the club at risk - again. Surely no-one wants that?

KernowCanary 214 Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) Back when the Premier League wasn’t an uneven playing field, although Sky TV seemed to favour United the most for live games so I recall, so nothings changed there….. BUT they were simple times and anyone could have a fantastic season if they had the right players, the know how and tactical nous. The “Whole New Ball Game” commercial set to Alive and Kicking, has to be an iconic football moment. The back pass rule really took some time for the players to get used to as well!. Somewhere on the web is the first ever MOTD episode when the Premier League started showing players panicking with it and you had to play 42 games back then. The more even playing field we had back then allowed Swindon to go up. If the Prem back then was like it is now, they wouldn’t have stood a chance in hell of promotion. ”The FA Carling Premiership”, really felt that was tacky at the time, now it’s a slice of nostalgia and a reminder of simpler times.
