So, Emi has gone, most of us have got (or are getting) it out of our system, so let's look forwards.

Could adopting 3-4-2-1 system, effectively taking out an attacking midfielder for a defender, make a post-Buendia future smoother?

There are a few reasons:

- Farke has used the system before and would seemingly have no issues using it again.

- Aarons (if he stays) and Giannoulis are better going forward than they are defending, and with us being a bit too open last time, could we maximise their strengths whilst protecting their weaknesses?

- Defenders are cheaper than attackers. By building a squad that contains an extra defender or two whilst sacrificing two more attacking players, we could utilise our budget better.

- We don't really use natural wingers anyway. Obviously we do have Hernandez and Placheta in the squad, and keeping one of them as an option wouldn't go amiss.

Critics may think it's a defensive formation, but there's really no such thing. Any formation can be defensive or attacking depending on how it's used, and teams like Dortmund and Atalanta have shown recently that this formation can actually be extremely offensive.

It's an option that is certainly worth considering.

I think it'll be 4-3-2-1 personally, with the full-backs providing width. If we're playing three centre-halves, you'd think we'd need five on our books if not indeed six as we had four last time out playing four at the back, and that didn't go too well. Also, an extra deep-lying midfielder would be good for bringing Sorensen along.

Sorry what is this? Should be not all be grieving our loss? The entire pink’un messageboard should be in a state of mourning for at least one week before we can start to fathom any kind of plan for next season.

Farke has watched Mike Bassett during the summer break, and now there's only one formation he's going with...

The thing is though, we're short on central midfielders too. Regardless of whether we go 3-4-2-1 or 4-3-2-1, we're going to need three bodies between central defence and central midfield.

Fair point. Let's see who he brings in.
