John Edrich RIP.

Recommended Posts

Only just seen the news of the passing of this great cricketer in the past couple of days. Well remember as a kid watching his triple century in the test against NZ in the mid 60s, that knock still stands today as having the most 4s and 6s in a single innings. Absolutely one of the best and leading Norfolk born sportsmen ever.

Had a very long 20 year battle with an illness apparently, brave man indeed, both in and out of his sporting career.

I hadn't seen this news. I used to work with his daughter; one of the loveliest people I have ever had the pleasure to know. I'm no cricket fan, however I'm aware John was an absolute legend - he hails from Blofield and went to the same school as my mother...

I saw him play for the Edrich XI against the Lord's Taverners at Ingham in the early 1960s. I had to look this up but he got bowled by Garry Sobers for only six! RIP.
