ricardo 7,416 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) There used to be a little kiosk between those two stalls where you could buy pea shooters before going in the cinema. Much fun was had 😁 Edited April 28, 2020 by ricardo
BroadstairsR 2,218 Posted April 28, 2020 Above the car with 'a' obliterated by the lampost. My mother use to say "Tuppance for the bus and sixpence for the Gaumont" I'm a bit later than you.
nutty nigel 7,649 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) There's some great photos of that area on George Plunkett's site. My favourite ties in with Rickyyyyyy's memories of the cattle being driven through the city. Apparently they broke loose and stampeded there from Orford Hill.... This was 1939 though. I think they then built a brick shelter there during the war. Edited April 28, 2020 by nutty nigel
BroadstairsR 2,218 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) Burtons was there. I remember their shop nearer Jarrolds and bought my first suit there ... but wore it with a degree of reluctance as I was somewhat embarrassed. We all conformed more in those days and preferred to be anonymous. Edited April 28, 2020 by BroadstairsR

Myra Hawtree 127 Posted April 28, 2020 There was a uniformed chap at the Regent called Mr Sillett who was very jobsworth and a bit like Mr McKay in Porridge.
