Northern Canary 0 Posted December 19, 2005 ................ has just been given a new contract by Watford - keeping him there til 2010.Is that not a bit over the top? They are doing well but they havent run away with the league. And not all managers can keep it up for that long. 4 years seems a very long time and it might cost a lot to pay him off. What do you think?
lucky green trainers 0 Posted December 19, 2005 agree northern, the watford board might be caught in the moment, but for a side in 3rd place, when a relegation battle seemed more likely the boys done well.
ncfc0405 0 Posted December 19, 2005 he''s being touted for the southampton job so this is a defensive move by the watford board. makes him a much more expensive target.this is a general misunderstanding by lots of people it seems - news of a new/extended contract does not mean the player/manager is pledging loyalty to the club but that the individual in question is attracting interest from other parties and the club wants to increase the value of their asset.it''s just like extending the lease on a leasehold flat (yes footballers are just assets like everything else a business owns!) still holding out for new heroes 0 Posted December 19, 2005 its a big risk for Watford, that will certainly take some paying off if it all goes horribly wrong...I guess they''re paranoid about him going else where
Rudolph Hucker 0 Posted December 20, 2005 If anyone wants him they will have to pay up his contract, simple as.....
AJ 1,345 Posted December 20, 2005 in one way it is a big risk for Watfordbut look how well they are doing, can you blame them? Makign mistakes while being on a high can be costly, as we found out when in the premierleague with Worthington........ On the other hand, it is a basic 5 year deal, the highest normally offered to players and staff alike.
Syteanric 1 Posted December 20, 2005 it might be a risk.. however Boothroyd is likely to be snapped up by a bigger club at some point, perhaps sooner rather then later.. the Approachin club has to pay Watford Boothroyds contract so as he is on a fair wage for a number of years its lucrative for the club. also, he obviously has a plan in mind to guarentee long term success, i would certainly have offered him 3 years if i was the watford board... Boothroyd may or may not acheive his goal.. but he wants to build a squad and obviously is planning for seasons to come in this way.Eitherway, i think Watford have made the right choice, if he takes them up they get the premiership millions.. if another club poach him they get a sizeable payoff.. good businessjas :)
