Gainer the Gopher 0 Posted April 3, 2015 Steady the ship? What the hell for? We were a relative offensive juggernaut that was exciting to watch win, lose or draw. The 11th place finish was ok but how we got there, minus the last 2 games, was embarrassing. Sure we won some games we weren''t supposed to, but they were as exciting to watch as lawn bowling. Our ship was rocking and rolling and the board should have hired a manager that could take that and build on it, not one whose system was the polar opposite of what we were built for. Carrow89 0 Posted April 3, 2015 I don''t think we were that offensive, a bit rude and cheeky (and even lucky) but not not some sweary nasty club, team or fans either.
Horse Renoir 1 Posted April 3, 2015 We weren''t that attacking under Lambert, we were a counter attacking team and a very effective one which is why we scored a lot of goals, we leaked a lot because of our poor quality defenders.Hughton signed some class in defence which is why we did better defensively in his first season, but he also stopped us from counter attacking for the sake of defensive solidarity and tried to employ slow, patient build up play. The idea was to nick enough games by the odd goal to get to the 40 point mark every year. Trouble is, we''ll never be able to affrd an attack that''s technically gifted and clinical enough in goal to create enough chances and score regularly in this system and all of our defenders had concentration and consistency issues so we were never going to keep many clean sheets.Hughtons inability to adapt and deploy a different approach leads me to believe he''s a one trick pony, his approach could''ve been very effective with the right players, but we didn''t have the right players from the start and his signings didn''t fit this approach either so he was always going to fail in the end
