  1. Yes and in Havel's communist Czech Republic, they'd have said exactly the same about the "Workers of the World Unite" posters which were basically obligatory if you knew what was good for you. For context, I'm in the Americas therefore have mainly been seeing US media this year. At least in the US BLM posters, taking the knee, raising the fist was often socially enforced in a similar way. BLM posters outside businesses were referred to as "don't hurt me" posters. I'm Left libertarian therefore I react pretty badly to groupthink, coercion and authoritarianism. The fact that me merely pointing out that intellectuals of all backgrounds are calling out the same things gets such a hysterical reaction is, well, telling....
  2. What is really depressing is that people like you get so emotional and threatened by some recommendations of some thinkers who may challenge your cosy little orthodoxy. It is basically religious thinking. You are an intellectual coward.
  3. It isn't a "debate" when trying to give some research recommendations and pointing out black liberals saying some challenging things is immediately labelled right wing. Just because you've been presented with a certain narrative and feel ideologically pressured to conform to it does not make the narrative beyond question. I have actually lived in non-white countries the last few years and I can assure you it gives our concept of racism a different slant. It is very, very complicated.
  4. Yes it's silly because that connection is bogus, whereas the BLM/taking the knee one is obvious and out in the open. There are many black intellectuals speaking out against BLM (Coleman Hughes, John McWhorter, Glenn Loury, Chloe Valdary, John Wood etc). There's good reason for that.
  5. That's funny because I literally don't know any right wing people and yet all my friends and family wear a poppy.
  6. It's possible to be a lifelong academic on the subject of the anatomy of fruit flies.
  7. There isn't a movement behind wearing poppies which has openly dodgy beliefs/tendencies.
  8. No. But I don't expect you to understand nuance without doing some reading.
  9. Performative acts of acquiescence in which you will be socially shamed and punished for not taking part are a classic in the authoritarian playbook. Have you read "the Power of the Powerless" by Vaclav Havel?
  10. My bad, "originally" doesn't apply in his case. Everybody should be concerned about racism in the police and everywhere else. That doesn't mean that absolutist critical Race Theory dogma (which is behind BLM) is a good way to counter it. So far studies show that CRT inspired implicit bias training has the opposite effect. It's complicated. Have you listened to Nawaz' friend Sam Harris "can we pull back from the brink?" podcast?
  11. He was also an Islamic extremist... which is pretty authoritarian. Again, why would he be speaking out?
  12. Sorry but I'm not going to give you a synopsis of the stuff I've recommended just because you're too emotionally attached to your echo chamber to educate yourself. Many of the people exposing the Woke movement for what it is are originally from authoritarian regimes (Gad Saad, Konstantin Kisin, Maajid Nawaz etc), or are Jewish (Bret and Eric Weinstein, Bari Weiss etc). They know what they are talking about. Gad Saad's the Parasitic Mind is also very good on this. But of course you would prefer to sneer and belittle than educate yourself.
  13. How about getting out of your echo chamber and reading some stuff that doesn't just stroke your ego by reaffirming your bias?
  14. Again, do some research and it will enable you to see the bigger picture.
  15. I was a union member for 25 years, involved in three strikes and voted Corbyn in through membership. I then joined Labour and voted Corbyn. But I've also spent a fair while in Cambodia and therefore know a fair bit about authoritarian communism. The Woke movement uses the tactics of the latter. So do the research I recommend above and get yourself an informed opinion or continue the ignorant virtue signalling. Your choice.
  16. Read Kimberle Crenshaw's mapping the margins. Research Derrick Bell (the originator of critical Race Theory). Research the roots of intersectionality and identify politics. It's about controlling the narrative and performative displays such as taking the knee are part of that.
  17. I'm on the Left, but the Woke agenda based on postmodern critical theory is authoritarian. It's perfectly possible to think that black lives matter very much without supporting an organisation lead by "trained Marxists" who want to defund the police and disrupt the nuclear family. Read the book "Cynical Theories".
  18. First time I've seen the incidents. They are having a laugh. First one was one of the worst swan dives I've seen and second Vrancic gets the ball.
  19. Don't agree. No 10's tend to be tightly marked. I feel Steipi is underrated as he does a really clever job at this level, using his physicality and tiring defenders out. Vrancic gets more time to pick passes as a CM.
  20. Has it occurred to you that all those passes were to wear down a very well organised, defensive team so we could hit them in the last ten minutes when they tire? Ie, that a manager who's got us to the top of the league during the worst injury crisis in the division knows what he's doing?
  21. They are professional enough to be realistic about it. But Webber has actually been quite pointed in criticizing negative fans in the past. And he's right.
  22. Yep. We have virtually no wriggle room in the squad and yet Farke still pulls something out of the hat.
  23. I sometimes wonder what Webber or Farke would think reading this board after draws and defeats and just cringe. Ever negative righteous moaners can drive good people out of clubs and it needs to spoken out against. If just a couple of people become more trusting and supportive then it's worth it.
