Renskay 38 Posted January 19, 2013 - Bassong-esque CB who can accompany him as well as deputize for him when he''s unavailable,- a DM who can win the ball back aswell as string some simple passes together.- a (preferably pacy) LM to compete and provide a good competition with Pilkington so that when he has an awful or nothing game he can be dropped aswell as if he''s unavailable Snodgrass doesn''t have have to stand in for him in a position that isn''t his best.- some may disagree with this, but a player to play the AM Hoolahan role to replace him that aswell as providing great pieces of skill and dribbling can provide that killer pass when needed instead of holding onto the ball far too long and losing the opportunities completely and nothing being made of them. - and of course a goalscoring Striker no real further explanation is really needed on this I don''t think as it is just so obvious it''s what we need. ZLF 335 Posted January 19, 2013 cant argue with that. I do think surman can give competition for Pilks And we MUST give fox a go in place of BJ soon.
Gingerpele 0 Posted January 19, 2013 Don''t know what the obsession with Fox is... Even Lambert who loved him was leaving him out a lot last season towards the end. Also Surman isn''t a winger, although the way we fail to use Pilks we might as well play Surman out wide.I don''t mind 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 whatever you want to call it, I think it can and does work, but I think we need to play two upfront with Holt playing. Or sign someone who is properly capable of playing that role. Holt isn''t the guy you want upfront on his own, because he doesn''t stay upfront, he''s all over the pitch, which is great, but not when he''s the only striker. ZLF 335 Posted January 19, 2013 I dont think Fox is the answer either - what i do know is the that our biggest problem this season has been giving away the ball when we have possession.Keeping the ball is something Fox was good at last season, and something BJ has become increasing poor at this season - 24 time today is simply unacceptable.I said surman could give cover as Pilks is by far the better player - but pilks is not used as a winger either and its noticeable that his efforts have not been consistent - last year surman did play the wide left role ok - in not left winger. He is an option until the summer.Up front - well we have just been poor all season - whether with 1 or 2 up front - suggesting its the players as much as the formation
Gingerpele 0 Posted January 19, 2013 I havent'' been looking at the stats, but I have been watching Johnson closely as he is my current favourite player, and I think his passing is getting better. I''m not blind to him, and am not trying to make out he is some kind of Xavi on the ball, i''m not even saying he is that great, until a few weeks ago in all honesty i''d have chosen Tettey over him. But bar today, Johnson has been very important for me. His range of passing has improved (ball to Garrido in second half, was lovely chipped over the RB with just enough weight on it to fall to Garrido who won a corner I believe). I saw a stat on Twitter that apparently he''s been dribbled past the most out of any PL player (this was last week sometime, may have changed...) and NN posted on here that Snodgrass made the most successful tackles in our team, and BJs pass rate isn''t great apparently. But from actually watching the game, none of this seems apparent. Stats are going to be fairly accurate, but they might not be 100%...I like Surman, I think he''s a great player and wish we had a system that he could star in, think he''s a great passer, can be pretty creative and can score goals. I think a midfield consisting of him, Fox & Hoolahan would be brilliant, great at keeping the ball with creativity. Its just how would you make that work? Put Tettey & Snod in there? Suppose thats the only way, just swap Pilks and BJ for Fox and Surman. I don''t think Holt has been poor at all, he''s just been poor at being a lone striker. I don''t think we''ve really played two upfront much at all have we? Personally at HT, i''d have brought Kane on for Howson (or BJ/Tettey) put Bennett on the right and just got the ball in the box, make sure Kane or Holt, preferably both are in the box as much as possible. I think we could almost play like Stoke... But not as aggressive. I don''t think Stoke are half as bad as people make out, they can and do play decent football at times, its not all just hoof it up the the CF.
Yobocop 1,444 Posted January 19, 2013 It''ll be ok when we beat spurs next Wednesday and everyone will start talking about Europe again
ZLF 335 Posted January 19, 2013 on bj he has been key for us this season on another thread some one called him a donkey - that is not the case at all - and he was the best option we had.But we simply cant afford to keep giving the ball away that frequently - and recently he has been the prime culprit - once he stops winning the ball back end up running more than intercepting his strengths no longer outweigh his weaknesses He is a a key member of our squad and perhaps the lack of player rotation means that his opponents and now fresher than he is - a rest for fox may just spruce him up again.
